The Berkeley County Coroner's Office had the pleasure of tabling at the inaugural MUSC Children's Safety Day at the Cane Bay YMCA. Community Outreach Coordinator Allison Bilton and Deputy Coroner Jordan Moran enjoyed meeting many of the Cane Bay families. They talked to them about water safety, safety around medication, and fi****ms. We provided gun locks from the VA, resource cards, su***de awareness materials, mental health pins, and positive affirmations. Before leaving we had the opportunity to speak to the community partners about Narcan.

This Mother’s Day, we honor and remember all mothers, those who are with us today, and those who are no longer here but continue to live on through the love, memories, and impact they left behind.

We recognize that today can bring both joy and grief. For many, it is a day of celebration; for others, it is a reminder of someone deeply missed. We hold space for both.

On behalf of the Coroner’s Office, we extend our thoughts to every mother, grandmother, stepmother, foster mother, and mother figure in our community. We also keep in our hearts the families spending today remembering and honoring mothers who have passed.

Their love continues to shape lives long after they are gone, and their memory will never be forgotten.

Wishing peace, comfort, and love to all this Mother’s Day. 💐

⚠️ Drug Threat Alert: Cyclorphine ⚠️

The White House Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) has issued a national alert on cyclorphine, a highly potent synthetic opioid linked to multiple deaths across the U.S. At this time, our office has not identified any deaths directly associated with this substance in our county. However, it has been identified in multiple regions and cases continue to rise.

Cyclorphine is dangerous because it:
• Can be more potent than fentanyl
• Is often mixed with other drugs
• May require multiple doses of naloxone
• May not show on standard drug screens

What you should know:
• Stay aware of risks in the drug supply
• Never use alone and carry naloxone if possible
• Call 9-1-1 immediately if an overdose is suspected

Our office remains committed to keeping the community informed and promoting public safety. Awareness can save lives.

ONDCP Drug Threat Notice: Cychlorphine, a synthetic opioid involved in at least 55 deaths, has potential to spread across Nation. Read more

May is National Water Safety Month! 💙
As we head into swim season, it’s the perfect time to refresh your water safety knowledge and help keep your family, friends, and community safe in and around the water. Whether you’re at a pool, lake, or beach, safety should always come first.

💡 Tip of the Day: Always designate a Water Watcher, a responsible adult whose only job is to actively supervise swimmers without distractions.

Let’s work together this month to raise awareness and prevent drowning.
