Santee Cooper

Santee Cooper Santee Cooper (formal name: South Carolina Public Service Authority) is South Carolina's state-owned

We are the state's largest power producer and the ultimate source of electricity for 2 million South Carolinians. We provide direct service to more than 203,000 retail customers in Berkeley, Georgetown and Horry counties. Customers can report outages by visiting santeecooper.com or by calling 1-888-769-7688. Real-time outage information and estimated restoration times can be found at our Storm Cen

ter at stormcenter.santeecooper.com. We also are the primary source of power distributed by the state's 20 electric cooperatives to more than 700,000 customers located in each of South Carolina's 46 counties. We supply power directly to 27 large industrial facilities, as well as to the town of Bamberg, the city of Georgetown and Joint Base Charleston. Through our Santee Cooper Regional Water System, water is sold wholesale to the Lake Moultrie Water Agency, whose customers are the Summerville Commissioners of Public Works, the city of Goose Creek, the Berkeley County Water and Sanitation Authority, and the Moncks Corner Public Works Commission. Santee Cooper's Lake Marion Regional Water System sells wholesale water to the Lake Marion Regional Water Agency, which is comprised of Berkeley, Calhoun, Clarendon, Dorchester, Orangeburg and Sumter counties, the town of Santee and the city of Sumter. We were the first utility in South Carolina to offer Green Power, electricity generated by renewable resources such as solar, wind and landfill methane gas. We operate six landfill generating stations throughout the state, capable of generating 28 MWs of renewable power. We have solar installations in Horry, Aiken and Beaufort counties, and our statewide Green Power Solar Schools program has installed demonstration solar systems at 20 schools. We were the first South Carolina utility to add a wind turbine to its grid and continue to study the feasibility of offshore wind along the South Carolina coast. Santee Cooper is governed by an 14-member board of directors, 12 of which are appointed by the governor, deemed fully qualified by the Senate Public Utilities Review Committee and confirmed by the state Senate. The board is comprised of directors representing each of the seven congressional districts; one from each of the three counties where Santee Cooper serves retail customers directly; two directors with previous electric cooperative experience; and a chairman appointed at large. Two board members represent Central Electric Power Cooperative and are non-voting, ex-officio members.

Some team members met their Lunch Buddies from Macedonia Middle School for a tour of our Regional Water System. Our mentors regularly meet the students for lunch. It was refreshing to see the kids outside of school and show them a little of what we do.
