SCHOLARSHIP & CONTEST SEASON IS HERE!

VFW Post 9509 and VFW Auxiliary 9509 want to make sure students, families, teachers and veterans in our community know about the scholarship and contest opportunities available through the VFW and VFW Auxiliary.

There are opportunities for students from kindergarten through high school — plus scholarships for veterans, service members, Auxiliary members and their families!

Grades 9–12
2026–2027 Theme: “What a Veteran Taught Me About America”
Students compete by writing and recording a patriotic audio essay.
National First Place: $35,000 scholarship

SPORT CLIPS HELP A HERO SCHOLARSHIP
For eligible service members and veterans pursuing higher education or training.

VFW AUXILIARY SCHOLARSHIPS & CONTESTS

YOUNG AMERICAN CREATIVE PATRIOTIC ART CONTEST
Grades 9–12
Students create original two-dimensional patriotic artwork.
National scholarships total $37,000.
Deadline to a participating VFW Auxiliary: March 31

3-DIMENSIONAL PATRIOTIC ART CONTEST
Grades 9–12
For students who want to express patriotism through three-dimensional artwork.
National scholarships total $5,500.
Deadline to a participating VFW Auxiliary: March 31

ILLUSTRATING AMERICA
Grades K–8
A patriotic art contest with separate divisions for grades K–2, 3–5 and 6–8.
National awards are presented in each division.
Deadline to a participating VFW Auxiliary: March 31

CONTINUING EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP
For eligible VFW Auxiliary members and their spouse, son or daughter who are pursuing a college degree or vocational/technical education.
Four $2,250 scholarships are awarded nationally.
Deadline: February 15

Today, we honor every Coast Guardsman—past and present—for their courage, commitment, and selfless service to our country.
