Structure Fire
Today the Monee FPD responded to a barn fire. Upon arrival crews found a working barn fire. The livestock had already been moved out. The crews deployed 2 hoselines. The alarm was upgraded, bringing the surrounding fire departments to assist with suppression and station coverage. There were no injuries, all the livestock remained in the pastures.

🌪️ Impacted by the recent storms? Recovery resources are available.

Beginning Monday, August 17, a Multi-Agency Resource Center will be open to all Will County residents at the Village of University Park Community Room.

📍 90 Town Center Drive, University Park
⏰ Monday–Friday: 9:00 AM–6:00 PM
⏰ Saturday: 9:00 AM–1:00 PM

The Resource Center will serve as a place for residents to connect with storm recovery information, resources, and available assistance. Help may include:

• SNAP replacement benefits
• Insurance claim navigation assistance
• Cleanup support
• Emotional support
• Veteran support
• School supplies
• Pet supplies
• And more

Agencies currently scheduled to participate include: American Red Cross, Illinois Department of Human Services, Illinois Department of Insurance, Illinois Emergency Management Agency, Salvation Army, U.S. Department of Agriculture, Veterans Assistance Commission of Will County, Will County Animal Protection Services, Will County Health Department, and Will County Regional Office of Education.

Please share this information with anyone who may have been impacted by the storms.

For everyone who bought a generator during the outage and finally has power back on — don’t just roll that generator into the garage and forget about it. There’s a pretty good chance you’ll need it again someday.

Before you put it away, take a few minutes to take care of it.

Add fuel stabilizer if you’re going to leave gas in it, or even better, drain the tank and run the generator until the fuel system is empty. Gas doesn’t stay good forever, and letting old fuel sit can gum up the carburetor. Then the next time the power goes out, you may pull that generator out only to find out it won’t start — exactly when you need it most.

It’s also not a bad idea to keep some extra fuel on hand for emergencies, but rotate it. Don’t let the same gas sit around forever. Periodically use it in your lawn mower or vehicle, if appropriate for that fuel, and replace it with fresh gas.

You spent good money on that generator. Take 15 minutes now to make sure it’s ready the next time you need it.

And one more thing: start it up periodically and make sure everything is working. Finding out something is wrong during the next outage is a little too late.

Hello Monee residents and surrounding villages that have no power ,
TRACTOR SUPPLY in monee is getting another emergency delivery of generators Friday August 14, I will open my doors for business at 6am for folks needing generators, cords and gas cans.

2-1-1 and Tree Cleanup Assistance

2-1-1 is available to assist residents with unmet needs following the storm like food, shelter, and tree cleanup assistance. I have attached a 2-1-1 flyer that you may also share with your communities.



Tree cleanup assistance is also available through Christian Aid Ministries Rapid Response Services, Illinois Baptists, and IDES (International Disaster Emergency Service). These volunteer chainsaw crews currently plan to remain available in the area through September.



Residents needing assistance with fallen trees should:



Call 2-1-1 and request tree cleanup assistance.
Complete the Will County Storm Damage Survey at www.willcountyema.org/storm and include their name, address, email address, and phone number.
Watch for a text message from 2-1-1 containing a waiver. The waiver must be signed before assistance can be provided.
A volunteer cleanup administrator will follow up directly with residents requesting assistance.
Assistance is based on volunteer availability and the type of work needed.

Always operate portable generators outdoors at least 20 feet away from homes, windows, and doors with the exhaust pointed away from the house. Never run it in a garage or basement. Never add fuel when the generator is hot.

August 11th storm update. The Monee FPD responded to over 45 incidents in the first 12 hours. These included fire alarms, building damage, people trapped in homes, structure fire, car accidents and wires down. Please be situational aware for hanging tree branches, Wires down and generator safety.
