BACK TO SCHOOL SAFETY REMINDER

As students head back to the classroom, we want to remind everyone that keeping our kids safe is a community effort.

With school back in session, please remember:

🚌 Watch for school buses — Slow down and be prepared to stop when a bus is loading or unloading students.

🚸 Expect more pedestrians — Children may be walking or biking to school.

🚗 Slow down in school zones — Pay attention to posted speed limits and increased traffic around our schools.

🏫 Follow school drop-off and pickup procedures — Parents and students should follow all school instructions for designated drop-off and pickup routes. These procedures are in place to help keep students safe as they arrive at and leave school.

📵 Put the phone down — A few seconds of distraction can have serious consequences. Keep your attention on the road.

Monett, Mo- The City of Monett is pleased to announce the appointment of Monett Police Captain Dennis Camp as interim police chief following the retirement of Police Chief George Daoud July 31, 2026.

Camp is a lifelong Monett resident and a 1993 graduate of Monett High School. He attended the Missouri Southern State University Law Enforcement Academy and earned both an Associate of Science in Law Enforcement and a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from MSSU. Camp brings 29 years of service with the Monett Police Department to his new leadership role.

“I wish Chief Daoud the very best as he begins a new chapter,” Camp said. “Monett has been my home my entire life, and I have dedicated my career to serving this community. It is a tremendous honor to be entrusted by the City of Monett to serve in this capacity.”

Daoud began his law enforcement career with the City of Monett in December 2000 as a patrol officer. During more than 25 years of service, he rose through the department’s ranks, serving nine years as a detective and 10 years as police chief.

“It has been my pleasure to serve the City of Monett and its diverse community members over the last 26 years,” Daoud said. “I believe the Monett Police Department has some of the best trained, most highly educated and professional staff of any agency our size. The department will continue operating under Interim Chief Camp, whose 29 years of experience with the department
will provide stability and continuity following my retirement.”

The City of Monett thanks Chief Daoud for his dedicated service and leadership and congratulates Interim Chief Camp on his appointment.

“As police Captain for the past year, Interim Chief Camp is a natural fit for the position,” said Monett Mayor Randy Burke. “Chief Daoud has been an instrumental part of the Monett community and has done so much for public safety in the community, but with Interim Chief Camp stepping in, Public Safety in Monett remains in professional hands.”
