Once again, Happy Coast Guard Auxiliary Day! Yesterday, June 23rd was our 87th Anniversary. Our flotilla has been marking the countdown to the larger event on the horizon, America’s 250th Birthday, by participating in several patriotic activities throughout Monmouth County. Pictured here is AUX Amanda Prascsak, Flotilla Commander of 02-06, with local author & historian, John Schneider, and AUX Doug Livornese, Flotilla Staff Officer, at Monmouth Beach’s Flag Day celebration on June 14. (This included a dramatic, lively reading of the Declaration of Independence by Mr. Schneider).

The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary’s official anniversary is June 23rd. It marks the 1939 creation of the civilian Coast Guard Reserve, renamed the Coast Guard Auxiliary in 1941.

Today marks the 82nd Anniversary of D-Day

On June 6, 1944, more than 150,000 Allied troops landed in Normandy. Over 4,000 Coast Guard personnel played a key role, crewing landing craft and directing the flow of troops and equipment onto the beaches.

The Coast Guard’s efforts were critical to the success of the largest amphibious invasion in history and the beginning of the end of World War II in Europe.

We honor the courage, service and sacrifice of all who took part. To the Coast Guardsmen who helped make victory possible, thank you for defending freedom and shaping the future of our nation.
