Wed. October 12th: Unhappy with our underfunded schools in Monona? A group of people have begun a postcard writing campaign that is beginning to get the attention of state legislators. We would like to keep that momentum going by inviting you to join the Concerned Citizens for Public Education group to continue writing to our legislators and the senate education committee. Our basic message is that we are unhappy with the underfunding of public schools and the loss of options available to us in dealing with cuts next year. Concerned citizens in other school districts have been starting their own writing campaign as well.
We have the Monona Community Center reserved for Wed. October 12th.
Come anytime between 4:15 and 7:00, Wednesday, write as many as you can, leave when you need to. There will be postcards to write on, addresses available and sample messages with talking points to consider. It is designed to be very easy, and seems to be making a powerful statement because several legislative staffs have been contacting the school district.
It's low-key, it's not union affiliated at all (in fact we are taking donations to pay for the postcards and postage), it's for the kids and it makes me think we might be making a difference.
Any community member is welcome. Please pass this message onto your friends and bring someone with you. Hope to see you there!
