Happy International Women’s Day!

In the United States, women make up 5% of career firefighters and 11% of volunteer firefighters. We are proud to be able to say that 40% of the members of your Monona Fire Department are women (19 out of 48)! They serve in all roles, firefighters, EMTs, paramedics, full time, part time, and volunteer, and in leadership roles. We could not function without them and all that they do.

If you are paying attention, just a couple of years ago we were at 30% But we can do better! We are always accepting applications for volunteer firefighters and EMTs. No experience required! Reach out to us if you’re interested!

Dane County Emergency Management is canceling the December test of the outdoor warning siren system, which had been scheduled for noon on Wednesday. The decision was made due to concerns that freezing temperatures and ice buildup on the equipment could result in damage to the siren heads and motors.

Snow emergency declared for the City of Monona

SNOW EMERGENCY DECLARED

Begins 8:00 AM Saturday, Nov. 29 until 10:00 AM Sunday, Nov. 30.
In preparation for a major snowstorm forecast for the area, pursuant to Municipal Code 434-13, Mayor Nancy Moore has declared a Snow Emergency for the City of Monona effective at 8:00 AM Saturday, Nov. 29 until 10:00 AM Sunday, Nov. 30. During the snow emergency, vehicles may not be parked on any street in Monona. There is an exception to allow street parking or alternate side parking on parts of St. Theresa Terrace, Gordon Avenue, Wallace Avenue, Valorie Lane, and Anthony Place. Residents should refer to the link below for a map of these locations.

Except for the specific locations above, the police department will ticket and tow vehicles parked on Monona streets that obstruct snow removal operations. It is essential to have the roadways clear so that Public Works crews can clear streets for emergency vehicle access during the snow event.

Residents may park vehicles in City of Monona parking lots that serve city parks until the end of the snow emergency. These include the public lots at Ahuska, Lottes, Winnequah, Frostwoods Beach, Fireman’s, Maywood and Schluter Parks.
