Monongah Volunteer Fire Department is a 100% volunteer organization operating in fire suppression, basic first aide, extrication and confined space rescue.

As we celebrate our nation’s independence with family, friends, and fireworks, we want everyone in Monongah and surrounding communities to stay safe and enjoy the festivities responsibly. Let’s light up the sky without lighting up any emergencies!

3 Important Fireworks Safety Tips:

1. Always supervise children — Never let kids handle fireworks on their own. A responsible adult must be present at all times.

2. Keep a water source ready — Have a bucket of water or a working hose nearby to douse fireworks that don’t go off or to cool down used ones.

3. Light one at a time & stand back — Only ignite fireworks on a stable surface away from people, homes, and dry vegetation. Never relight a dud — soak it in water instead.

If you see something unsafe or need emergency assistance, don’t hesitate to call us. Have a safe, happy, and memorable Independence Day!

👨‍🚒❤️ Happy Father's Day from the Monongah Fire Department! ❤️👨‍🚒

Today, we celebrate all fathers, grandfathers, stepfathers, and father figures who lead by example, provide strength and support, and help keep their families safe every day. We extend a special thank you to the dads who serve our community as firefighters, first responders, and volunteers. Your dedication both at home and in service does not go unnoticed.

As you enjoy this Father's Day and the summer season, remember these important fire safety tips:

🔥 Grill Safely – Keep grills at least 10 feet away from your home, deck, and anything that can catch fire. Never leave a grill unattended.
☀️ Beat the Heat – Stay hydrated, check on family members and neighbors, and never leave children or pets in a parked vehicle.
🎆 Leave Fireworks to the Professionals – Attend public fireworks displays and enjoy the show safely. Fireworks can cause serious injuries and fires.

⚠️ SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH IN EFFECT ⚠️

The Monongah Fire Department would like to remind all residents to remain weather aware as severe thunderstorms are expected throughout the region today. These storms may produce damaging winds, heavy rainfall, dangerous lightning, and localized flooding.

Please take a few moments now to prepare and stay safe:

⛈️ Stay Indoors During Lightning
Avoid outdoor activities and stay away from windows and electrical appliances during storms.

🌳 Secure Outdoor Items
Bring in or tie down patio furniture, grills, trampolines, and other loose objects that could become dangerous in high winds.

🚗 Never Drive Through Flooded Roadways
Turn Around, Don’t Drown. Even a small amount of moving water can sweep a vehicle away.

Monitor local weather alerts and have multiple ways to receive emergency notifications. If you experience an emergency, call 911 immediately.
