2026 EMS Week BBQ was officially a success. We were able to enjoy some delicious food, spend time with coworkers and families, and recognize our responders, providers, and Board of Directors. We are so grateful for each and every person that plays a role in keeping this district running everyday!

đźš‘ A Look Back: The History of EMS & EMS Week

Before modern EMS systems, emergency care looked very different, fragmented, inconsistent, and lacking standardized education and systems of care. Through decades of advocacy, innovation, and continuing education, EMS has evolved into a critical pillar of public health and patient care.

đź“… EMS Week began in 1974, when President Gerald Ford authorized the first national recognition of EMS professionals. Since then, it has become a time to honor the dedication, sacrifice, and impact of EMS providers across the country while highlighting the importance of continued progress in emergency medical services.

This year’s EMS Week theme, “Improving Outcomes Together,” reflects something we believe deeply at CAPCE.

At CAPCE, our mission is to set the standard for quality continuing education for EMS practitioners with the intent of improving patient outcomes, inspiring innovation, and ensuring the highest standards of excellence. Because improving outcomes starts long before a call comes in. It starts with education, training, and supporting the professionals who serve their communities every day.

We are proud to stand alongside EMS educators, providers, clinicians, and organizations nationwide as we celebrate the history of EMS and continue building its future together.
