Wow, looking great! Take a look at the incredible transformation our Greenway makes between Miller Street and Stafford Street!

City crews have been hard at work clearing overgrown areas, opening up the space, and extending the greenway. The results look fantastic! Come on out and see it for yourself! Enjoy the new greenway, take a walk, and see how nice it is.

A big thank-you to our hardworking City crews for making it happen. Great job!

Happy National Bosses Day to City Manager Mark Watson!

Running the City of Monroe is no small job, and Mark wears a lot of different hats! Somehow, he still always finds time to share a great story about our City and the people who make this community special. No one is more passionate about Monroe than he is. Today, City staff wanted to take a minute to say thank you, Mark, for everything you do for our team and our community.

The Monroe Fire Department has been serving our community since 1884! This Monday, Citizens Academy participants spent the evening with the department to learn how firefighters serve residents every day. Today, the department operates eight truck companies out of six fire stations, along with a fire administration office and a fire training center. That is a long way from 1922, when the department had one fully paid firefighter and 29 volunteers. In 2025 alone, Monroe firefighters responded to 7,631 emergency and non-emergency calls.

Participants also learned about the department’s specialized services, including swift-water rescue at Station 2 and child passenger seat checks at Station 1, which sits right underneath City Hall. Thank you to the Monroe Fire Department for hosting our class this week!
