Historic Monroe WA Monroe, WA & Sky Valley History Logging, trains, agriculture and rivers are all symbols of Monroe, Washington’s history.

There are many memorable people and documented events of the area since the mid-1800s. We'll occasionally share historical information about Monroe and other Sky Valley areas including Tualco, Sultan, Startup, Gold Bar, Index, Baring, Skykomish, Steven's Pass and even historical sites like Wellington, Old Mill Town and the Iron Goat Trail. These areas were instrumental to the successful settlement

of Monroe. Feel free to add stories and pictures (people love old pictures) but please give reference where they came from. Welcome! -Teresa Willard, Lifelong History Enthusiast

Seven teams battled it out last night vying for the trivia title at the Monroe Historical Society's Route 2 fundraiser. From Ben Franklin's suggestion of the turkey as our national bird, to the meaning of "e pluribus unum," we learned a lot, laughed a lot and celebrated all things American! The winning team was Blue Skin Nelson with 39 points, followed by a tie for second between the Gimmels and 250 Shades of Freedom, a team of City of Monroe employees and friends. The winners of the best team name contest? The Monroe Doctrine, comprised of regular trivia players Glen & Meg King and Gayle Labuguen. Trivia Master Jamie Peterson did a fabulous job, and we appreciate the support from the community and our friends at Route 2 Taproom who donate a portion of the evening's proceeds to our nonprofit. If you have a choice for dinner and drinks, please patronize this business. They care about Monroe!

How much do you know about the Boston Tea Party? Or the American Revolution? Test your memory of U.S. history on Wednesday, May 13 at 6 p.m. when the Monroe Historical Society presents America 250 Trivia at Route 2 Taproom. This fun all-ages event will give you and your team a chance to strut your stuff as the most knowledgeable residents in all of Monroe! The Boston Tea Party took place on Dec. 16, 1773. Colonists famously protested taxation without representation by dressing up as Native Americans to dump tea imported by the British East India Company into the harbor. Bonus if you know how much tea was tossed overboard and its value at the time.
