Barrier Breakers is a non-profit and was established to help create a lifestyle of sustainability in both our previously incarcerated and our unsheltered neighbors. Temperatures are to reach in the upper 80s and 90s. These temperatures pose a moderate to major risk of heat-related illnesses, especially for those who are heat sensitive and those without cooling or adequate hydration.

Please monitor the temperatures in the coming days and plan your day’s activities appropriately. Check on family members and friends to make sure they are safe. If you are looking for sheltering assistance, we are open as a cooling center in Monroe.

Safety Tips:
- Never leave children, older adults, or pets in a vehicle under any circumstances.
- Know the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
- Drink plenty of fluids; encourage others to do the same.
- Stay out of the heat or limit your outdoor activities.
- Wear sunscreen if you are outside.
- Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing.
- Be safe near/in water (pool, river, lake).
