Daisy came to us after a couple of days of them trying to find a rehabilitator. Daisy was found in somebody’s backyard and was paralyzed oddly she has maintained a suckle reflex and will drink. Over the last 24 hours she has gained partial use of her legs and her tail! She still cannot stand on her own but our daughter Charley has been incredibly dedicated to doing her rehab and giving her massages and helping her to move all of her legs! So please send all of your prayers for Miss Daisy!

The newest baby came in last night… she is so tiny but doing pretty well… we have named her Carrie ♥️

Wynona came in very neurologic with a fractured vertebrae in her neck. Surprisingly enough through all of her up and downs she is still with us but really wasn’t enthusiastic about drinking this morning ….
W***y is now 15lbs 😳
Thank you to everyone that helps us ♥️🙏

This is just a reminder to the general public or finders of fawn that our state currently has restrictions on certain counties due to finding the presence of chronic wasting disease in deer.

What is chronic wasting disease?
Chronic wasting disease is caused by a prion, or malformed protein. Similar to Creutzfeldt-Jakob or mad cow disease. Since it is a malformed protein there are no available treatments. Antibiotics and antivirals don’t work for this.

Rightfully so, officials hold concern that humans could potentially become infected with chronic wasting disease, hence the strict regulations.

What this means: fawn found in these areas are not allowed to be rehabilitated. They cannot cross county lines for treatment. The best thing to do is leave them be, or reach out to a wildlife agent for concerns.

We are up to 9… I feel like when people call me they are expecting that the “saltyhorseranchfawnrehabilitation facility” is some amazing, glorious structure. But it’s not. And all of the Rehabber’s that I know, theirs is not either. it’s our house. It’s our home. Each Fawn that we rehabilitate costs us between $300 and $500. Yes, we get some donations but for the most part this is what Doug and I have chosen as our community service. For six months out of the year we have a cell phone that rings 24 hours a day to answer questions about baby Whitetail deer. We answer those questions with as much patience as possible and help people in the Charlotte community make the best possible decisions for the babies that they find. But at the end of the day, this is what my living room looks like for May and June. It is full of babies. Why do I do it in my living room? Because I am up every four hours and that Includes 10 PM at night and 2 o’clock in the morning. it is just easier if I do not have to actually put on clothes to treat the babies at 2 AM in the morning. Once they are 3 to 4 weeks old and they are stable enough, they are moved to our outside pens. Also, nothing fancy, just chain-link panels with shade cloth on the inside that people have graciously donated, or that we have found used on craigslist.
So please, pass this post on and help people to understand that we are not a huge organization that deserves to be yelled at or demeaned on the phone when we are trying to help 💔
We are one of the only licensed fawn rehabilitation facility left in the Charlotte area, which means my phone rings almost 24 hours a day right now. Doug and I love what we do as we truly believe in the helping and conservation of wildlife but it is long hours and lots of heartache.
please be conscious that when you find wildlife and you are in a frantic panic to find someone to give it to that, the person that will help you most at that time receives no money for doing this, as a matter fact, they are probably going to financially support that baby you gave them. You will go home and eat your dinner and go on with your life, that rehab, or will take on all of that baby sickness, all of the treatments that it will need, getting up all throughout the day and night to treat and feed it until it is able to be released. Just be conscious of That and a little bit of gratitude goes a long way. ♥️

These two could both use prayers ♥️🙏
We are also getting up in numbers here and currently have limited supplies.
I will work on our Amazon list as several people have told me that the links aren’t working.
Even five dollars helps us to buy milk, laundry detergent, medication’s, and supplies for these babies!
