Last week, RC01 completed ventilation and forcible entry training.

A big thank you to Stallings Fire Department for allowing us to use your training facility and helping provide valuable hands-on experience for our recruits.

We look forward to continuing to train alongside our neighboring agencies and building strong partnerships through training and collaboration.

Yesterday, Bakers Fire Department Tanker 194 responded to assist Matthews Fire Department on a complex mutual aid incident.

Our crew worked alongside multiple agencies to support fire suppression operations and ensure a continuous water supply during the incident. Mutual aid responses like these highlight the importance of strong partnerships, teamwork, and regional cooperation when incidents become resource-intensive.

We appreciate the professionalism and coordination from all responding agencies who worked together to bring the incident to a safe conclusion.

This week, Recruit Class 1 learned about fire behavior and portable fire extinguishers. As a visual demonstration of fire behavior, the instructor used a wooden doll house.

The doll house is separated into rooms with removable panels to simulate a fire contained to a single room versus a fire that can spread through a house.

This is your reminder to always close your bedroom door before you go to sleep. A closed door may slow the spread of smoke, heat, and fire.

This week the Recruits are in PPE Class. These pictures are of them training to put their turnout gear on in less than 1:30.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is worn to help protect firefighters against the high temperatures and dangerous gases in a structure fire.

Stay low and get to your exit if you smell or see smoke or if your smoke alarm sounds. You should know 2 ways out of every room and 2 ways out of your house.

The statewide burn ban remains in effect until further notice despite weekend rain in some areas. Persistent dry weather and increasing rainfall deficits from the last several months have left most of the state needing 10 inches of rain or more.

“While the rainfall we received over the weekend was a welcome sight, it offered little to no relief from widespread drought conditions while being nowhere near enough to reduce our wildfire risk,” said Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler. “Even the areas that received the heaviest amount of rain will quickly dry out from the sunshine and warmer temperatures. Until we get some additional rain and see more green-up in our forests, holding the burn ban in place statewide is the best option right now.”

While green-up and leaf-out are progressing at normal rate, low soil moisture, dry surface fuels and persistent low humidity are contributing to wildfire activity. For Western North Carolina, excessive forest fuels from Hurricane Helene are more available now than they were in 2025, low water levels in coastal areas have helped produce intense fire behavior where ground fire will likely be a long-term issue, and the Piedmont experienced 87 new wildfire starts over the weekend alone. Extended attack and mop-up efforts will be taxing and long-winded until drought conditions improve.

Big things happening for RC01.

Last week, this group successfully completed their EMT course—an incredible milestone that reflects months of hard work, dedication, and commitment to serving their community.

This week, they’re already back at it—kicking off the next phase of their journey with firefighter training.

The momentum doesn’t stop, and neither do they. We’re proud of the effort they’ve put in so far and excited to watch them continue to grow.

Keep pushing, RC01. The best is yet to come.
