MONROE -

UPDATE 12.5.25 - Juveniles have been identified

12.4.25 - During last night’s Hometown Christmas Parade, a series of fireworks were set off in the area of Court Street in downtown Monroe. We want to reassure our community that there was no shooting incident, despite rumors currently circulating on social media.

In recent years, communities across the nation have experienced incidents of public chaos, false alarms, and critical events that can rapidly create fear and confusion in crowded environments. Because of these realities, the Monroe Police Department implemented enhanced strategic planning measures for an event of this magnitude. As a result, multiple officers were within yards of the location at the time the fireworks were set off, and at no point was there an active threat to parade spectators or participants.

We are now seeking information to identify the individual or group responsible for discharging fireworks during the parade, which caused unnecessary alarm and disrupted an otherwise safe and joyful evening for our community.

A $1,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the identification of the person or persons involved.

If you witnessed this incident or have any information, please contact Sergeant Josh Reynolds at 770-266-5124, the Monroe Police Department at 770-267-7576, or message us directly on Facebook.

Your assistance helps us keep our community safe.
