At last nights drill, members spent the evening training on injured victim removal and extrication in a vehicle. A majority of our calls here in Chester are MVA’s and we need to keep up and be efficient with our subject removal skills to assist EMS when it’s time to render aid. We would like to thank our very own member Jeff Payton, who is also a Paramedic, for sharing his knowledge with our members. (No dummies were injured in this drill)

This past Wednesday, members gathered for what was our final monthly meeting and dinner together at the current Trout Brook firehouse. Soon, members will be moved into our new storage building while construction begins for the new firehouse. A bittersweet night for all members.

This past Wednesday at our weekly drill, members were able to get hands on training with our vehicle extrication tools. This drill used training ideas such as cribbing Jenga and transfer the egg without breaking it to ensure basic fundamentals and comfortability with new and even experienced members.

Stop in any Wednesday at 7pm and grab an application. New members are always needed whether you have prior experience or none at all!

Yesterday (03/22/2026) at 0815 hours, the Chester Fire Department was dispatched to a possible structure fire on Tulip Lane in the Walton Lake section of the Chester Fire District. Chester PD first arrived on scene and confirmed a working fire with one occupant unaccounted for. E920 arrived on scene along with Car 3 and crews quickly went into the home and located the missing occupant. The victim was immediately removed from the home, but was unfortunately found to have succumbed to the fire. Units remained on scene for an extended period of time before the fire was placed under control. We would like to thank all first responders from surrounding departments and agencies for assisting us on scene. Our deepest condolences and prayers go out to the family affected by this tragic fire.

This past Wednesday, members participated in weekly drill instructed by our very own members, FF Rosengrant and FF Payton (both EMT’s). The topic this week was Medical bag knowledge, hands on with an AED, as well as FF packaging and CPR. This training allows our firefighters to brush up and increase their knowledge when medical treatment is needed on the fire ground and to ensure we can assist our local EMT’s when needed. Thank you to our instructors for sharing their knowledge.

2/2/2026 - *THREE 2nd ALARM FIRES IN 1 DAY*
While everyone was having breakfast and commuting to work, the Chester Fire Department was dispatched to a smoke investigation (later found to be a working structure fire) on McGinnisberg Mountain Rd at 09:49. About 5 minutes later, we were dispatched to a working structure fire on High St. Crews were met with heavy fire at both calls and quickly went to work. Due to an unplowed roadway on McGinnisberg Mountain Rd, responding units had trouble accessing the fire and had to navigate the conditions on foot. The fire was placed under control after an extended period. The fire on High St was knocked down just minutes after units arrived on scene. The Chester FD was dispatched to another working structure fire at 20:04 where we were assisted on scene once again by our neighbors. This fire was knocked down quickly. Good work to all involved!

Thanks to our mutual aid that assisted us and to SBG FD and for covering additional calls for us while we operated.
