Today, a cardiac arrest survivor stopped by Monroe Fire Department to personally thank the Fire and EMS professionals who played a role in his resuscitation. Seeing him healthy, smiling, and thriving is a powerful reminder of the impact of teamwork, training, and rapid intervention.

Moments like these highlight the incredible difference our first responders make every day.

In EMS, we willingly enter situations that are often unpredictable. While our focus is always on caring for patients, the profession carries risks that are rarely seen by those outside emergency services. Most days, those risks never materialize. Occasionally, however, circumstances change without warning and demand immediate action.

On July 28, one of those moments occurred. During a routine call, a patient suddenly became physically violent and attacked one of our Paramedics. In an instant, a routine call became a threat to the safety of the crew.

Without hesitation, Tre stepped forward. He immediately intervened, freed the Paramedic from the patient's grasp, and helped bring the situation under control, preventing further harm and restoring safety to a rapidly escalating scene.

What makes this recognition so meaningful is not simply the action itself, but what it represents. Courage is not the absence of fear or uncertainty. It is the willingness to act when the moment demands it, guided by character, conviction, and a commitment to the well-being of others.

While every EMS professional accepts the responsibility of serving others, actions such as these are rare. Faced with a sudden and dangerous threat, Tre made the conscious decision to place himself between his preceptor and harm, acting decisively in a moment where hesitation could have had serious consequences. His response reflected an extraordinary level of courage, selflessness, and commitment to the safety of those around him. It was not merely an expected act of duty, but an exceptional demonstration of character under pressure.

His actions remind us that while EMS is built on compassion and service, it also requires resilience, courage, and an unwavering commitment to one another. On that day, Tre's quick thinking, decisive action, and willingness to place the safety of others above his own helped ensure that everyone went home safely.

It is for these reasons that we proudly present Tre with the Union EMS Chief's Award for Exceptional Courage. Please join me in congratulating him for his professionalism, bravery, and dedication to the values that define our profession.

🚑💙 Happy EMS Week from Union EMS! 💙🚑

This year’s theme, “Improving Outcomes Together,” reminds us that emergency medical services are just one vital part of a much larger system of care. From 911 telecommunicators and first responders to hospital teams, rehabilitation providers, and community partners—every link in the chain plays a critical role in supporting patient outcomes.

At Union EMS, our paramedics, EMTs, and support staff are proud to stand on the front lines of that system. Every call we answer is part of a coordinated effort focused on delivering the right care at the right time, ensuring our patients receive the best possible outcomes from start to finish.

👏 To our incredible crews: thank you for your professionalism, compassion, and unwavering commitment to excellence. Your work doesn’t happen in isolation—it happens in partnership, and that teamwork saves lives.

❤️ To our healthcare partners and community: thank you for working alongside us and trusting us to be part of your care journey. Together, we truly are making a difference.
Join us this week in recognizing EMS professionals everywhere and the power of collaboration in patient care.
