As you may have noticed, this page has been inactive for quite some time. This is due to the main account runner losing access and unfortunately not being able to regain access. Apologies if you have messaged this account in that time and not gotten a response from the pantry - it was not intentional.

The PCM Food Pantry serves the towns of Prairie City, Monroe, and Reasnor in Jasper County, Iowa. We serve individuals and families that live within the PCM School District.

We need your help this summer! With an increase in usage and empty shelves at the Food Bank of Iowa, we need to Pack the Pantry! The items we need include what you find on the picture. We would like to highlight our need for toilet paper! You can drop off your donation at the PCM Food Pantry or you might be able to drop your donations off at one of the local churches.

We appreciate every donation!

Wondering what goes into the Backpack Bags that go home with thirty kids in our district on the last day of the week? This quick video shows the table before volunteers Karlin Hjortshoj, Terri St. Peter, Mary Sellars, and Dianne Taylor pack them the items up. These are the kinds of things we collect. While we try to get items from the Food Bank of Iowa, we rely on donations from the community to supply this project. The Food Bank of Iowa usually does not have these items in their stock. We're glad we can partner with the PCM School District to provide these bags to make difference for kids who might be food insecure over the weekend.

If you would like to donate any items or funds toward the Backpack Program, drop them off at the Monroe Presbyterian Church where the Pantry lives.

We are into our fourth week of sending out the Backpack Buddies this week. Two more kiddos will receive food this week to help them get through the weekend! If you want to know about that, please contact the elementary schools in Monroe and Prairie City! We're glad to be a part of the solution.

Our second installment of the Backpack Buddies goes out today! We packed a bit extra on the account of Spring Break. Thanks to the items we get for free from the Food Bank of Iowa and generous donations from the PCM community, twenty-eight bags went out the door to the school this morning.

Did you feel a little bit of kindness in the air today? The first Backpack Buddies went home in kiddos’ backpacks today. We hope that as the school folks distributed these bags of weekend food quietly today that they will make difference in these kiddos’ lives.

We thank all who donated thus far. If you would like to contribute, please consider this list: juice boxes, easy meals that can be warmed up in a microwave, small cereal boxes, fruit cups, GoGurt, individually wrapped cookies, granola bars, Goldfish crackers, jello cups, pudding cups.

The BackPack Project kicks off this Friday, March 4. Thanks to all of the donations that we have received so far to round out our meals. We could use the individual cereal boxes as well as sleeves of crackers to complete this week's list. We so appreciate all of the donations to this important new program.

If you shop this weekend, you might throw a few items in for the BackPack Project. Helpful donations include tuna in a package, pasta meals, ramen noodle meals, fruit cups, pudding cups, jello cups, granola bars, snack crackers such as Goldfish crackers, Teddy Grahams, or any other items you think would enhance our BackPack Project.

Beginning in March, the Pantry will partner with the Prairie City Elementary and Monroe Elementary to provide Backpack Buddies for kids who might need a little extra food over the weekend. Pantry volunteers will package up food enough for breakfast, lunch, and snacks for both Saturday and Sunday. The Backpack Buddies will be delivered to the schools and the school staff will place the food in the kiddos' backpacks.
We will be able to get a lot of food from the Food Bank of Iowa and those items will be free. The Pantry invites donations from people, churches, and organizations to consider donating items such as pudding cups, fruit cups, juice boxes, tuna in a package rather than a can, oatmeal packets, small cereal boxes, Mac and Cheese for the microwave, ramen noodle meals, pasta bowl meals, individual packages of cookies, Teddy Grahams, Goldfish crackers, peanut butter crackers, and apple sauce.
