On Friday July 31, 2020 Monroe Township Fire-Rescue received a call for one of our own brothers. Capt Joseph M. Liedel had suffered a stroke while responding to a medical call.

On August 23 2020 Capt Liedel passed away from the stroke he had.

Monroe Township Fire-Rescue takes this day every year to remember the sacrifices that Capt Liedel was willing to make. We miss his leadership around the station, his dedication to his community, but most of all the brotherhood we all had with him.

Please take a moment to remember Capt Liedel today as well as his family and all who called him a friend and brother.

Monroe Charter Township Fire Department is now accepting applications for Paid-on-Call Firefighters.
Applicants must be a high school graduate or have a GED, be 18 years of age, and live in Monroe Township or within close proximity to the Monroe Charter Township border. No experience is necessary and the department will provide all training, including firefighter certifications and medical licensure at no cost to the applicant. This is a great opportunity for anyone looking to get into the fire service, or that wants to give back to the community.

Interested applicants will need to pass a health screening, drug screening, an oral interview, a written test, and a physical agility test. Completed applications are due back to the fire department office no later than Aug 28th.

We are proud to serve our community! Due to the storms on the Fourth of July weekend, the Monroe Charter Township Fire Department set a record for most runs in a month with 293. By comparison we responded to 261 calls in July of 2025. Last year at the end of July we had a total of 1642 total responses compared to 1602 in 2026. We want to thank the Monroe Township voters for supporting the millage!

Today August 1st we remember our Brother Lt. Frank Brown III. 5 years ago today we lost Frank in an off duty boating accident in Bolles Harbor.

Frank was a husband, father, friend, mentor, leader and loved by all that knew him. Not a day goes by that our department doesn’t think about Frank.

Frank joined the Monroe Charter Township Fire Department in 2013, he was promoted to Sergeant in 2019 and Lieutenant in 2020. Frank was instrumental in training many of our Firefighters and was always one of the first to get his hands dirty.

Frank’s oldest son Mike is following in his footsteps and recently joined the Monroe Charter Township Fire Department.

Please keep Frank’s wife Mary, sons Mike and Tony in your thoughts.

Until we meet on the top floor Frank continue to watch over us.
