Green County Leaders

Green County Leaders GCL allows individuals to practice leadership skills, deepen their understanding of community issues and prepare for leadership roles.

Green County Leaders is an educational program where individuals practice leadership skills, deepen their understanding of community issues and prepare for leadership roles, thereby creating a network of active and visionary individuals who leverage their experience and expertise to benefit their community and local community-based organizations. The program begins with an orientation at the end o

f August and continues one day per month, September through May. Program days are dedicated to both personal leadership development and community orientation, led by a variety of trainers, facilitators, and community leaders. Additionally, there are activities required outside of program days that provide outlets to use and refine skills, concepts, and tools introduced in sessions, and readings which are integral program components. Through interactive community orientation, personal leadership development training, outside activities, and a hands-on team project, GCL provides participants with in increased capacity to contribute as effective leaders and a great knowledge of the area in which they live and/or work. GCL is made possible by a partnership between Green County UW-Extension and Green County Development Corporation (GCC) with strong support from community organizations and businesses . GCL does not discriminate on the basis of age, race, color, creed or religion, national origin, ancestry, sex, sexual orientation, marital or parental status, pregnancy, veterans' status, arrest or non-program related conviction record or qualified disability.

Another Community Awareness Activity from one of this year's participants, Kaley!

"For the Green County Leadership assignment, I visited Discount Depot, which is a newly opened business in the community. Since I had never been there before, it was a great opportunity to explore a local business and see what they offer. I was impressed with how organized the store was and the variety of products available at discounted prices. The staff were welcoming and helpful, which created a positive shopping experience. It was interesting to see how a new business is contributing to the local economy and providing another shopping option for residents in the area."

"For my Community Awareness Activity, I attended the Legacy Night at Monroe High School which was a special and memorable experience. Walking through the building gave me a chance to reflect on the history of the school and the many memories that were created there over the years. Those memories are special because I went to high school there, my kids went to school there and my mom taught Spanish and retired from Monroe High School, so the memories cover decades.

One of the highlights of the night was the welcoming atmosphere. There were cookies and cake served which made the event feel like a celebration. The memory wall was meaningful to many people. It gave a chance to leave a message, and it was a space that many gathered around. The night was a great way to celebrate the memories of the school and bring the community together before moving on to the new building."
