While our state has seen a 20% improvement since 2019, Georgia’s recent teen birth rates remained higher than the national rate of 13 teen births per 1,000 females ages 15 to 19 in 2024—and has been outpaced by the nation’s 24% improvement rate since 2019. Babies born to teens are far more likely to be born preterm and at a low birthweight—and into families with limited educational attainment and economic resources. Children of teens are more likely to have long-term health, behavioral and academic challenges. Learn more in this year’s KIDS COUNT Data Book: https://bit.ly/4av3RPx

Georgia is ranked 39th in the nation in child and family well-being in the 2026 KIDS COUNT Data Book, released today by the Annie E. Casey Foundation. Georgia has not been among the bottom 10 states since 2017—but recent progress has stalled. The state’s challenges are most evident in health outcomes, where Georgia fell six places to 45th, even as economic well-being improved two spots to 34th. https://bit.ly/4av3RPx

Parents and caregivers are often the first to notice when something feels different. Changes in mood, sleep, appetite or behavior may signal a young person needs support.
