🩵 What Does Child Abuse Prevention Look Like?

Prevention can look like a lot of different things.

It can be:

🤝 Helping a parent who needs support
👂 Listening to a child
🏡 Checking on a neighbor
📚 Learning how to recognize the signs of abuse
💙 Connecting a family with resources
🗣️ Speaking up when something doesn't feel right

Prevention isn't just one big action. It's thousands of small actions that strengthen families and protect children.

Together, we can make a difference.

🚨 Mandated Reporter Reminder

If you are a mandated reporter, knowing when and how to report suspected child abuse or neglect is an important part of protecting children.

You don't have to investigate.
You don't have to prove abuse occurred.
Your responsibility is to report when you have reasonable suspicion.

If you're unsure about your responsibilities as a mandated reporter, education can help.

CAN provides Mandated Reporter Training to help community members understand their role in protecting children.

💙 A Quick Update from CAN 💙

As we transition into a new fiscal year, we will be taking a short pause on car seat and Pack ’n Play requests from September 1 through October 1.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work through this transition and prepare for another year of serving families in our community.

🧠💙 Children's Mental Health Matters

Children experience big emotions, stress, anxiety, and difficult situations too.

One of the best things we can do is let children know that their feelings matter and they can talk to us about them.

You don't always have to have the perfect answer.

Sometimes, simply saying:

“I'm here. You can talk to me.”

is exactly what a child needs to hear.

Let's create communities where children know they are seen, heard, and supported. 🩵

🎒📚 Back-to-School Means Back to Routine!

As children head back to school soon, it's a great time to check in with them about how they're feeling.

Ask questions like:
💙 “How was your day?”
💙 “Who did you sit with at lunch?”
💙 “Is there anything you're worried about?”
💙 “Is there anything you want to talk about?”

Sometimes children don't tell us something is wrong until we create a safe opportunity for them to share.

Listen. Ask. Support.

A trusted adult can make all the difference. 🩵

🌟 It Takes a Community

CAN couldn't do what we do without the incredible organizations, agencies, schools, businesses, and individuals who work alongside us.

Preventing child abuse and neglect isn't something one organization can do alone.

It takes all of us—sharing resources, educating our communities, supporting families, and putting children first.

💤 Safe Sleep Saves Lives

Every baby deserves a safe place to sleep.

When putting a baby down to sleep, remember the ABCs:

A – Alone
B – on their Back
C – in a Crib

Keep the sleep space free of pillows, blankets, stuffed animals, bumpers, and other soft items.

If you have questions about safe sleep or need resources, CAN is here to help connect families with support.
