We’re proud to support Envirothon, which gives students hands-on opportunities to explore wildlife, soils, forestry, aquatics and environmental issues while developing leadership and problem-solving skills.

A recent feature from the North Carolina Wildlife Federation highlights the impact of Envirothon right here in Union County, including a student service-learning project at Cane Creek Park focused on protecting habitat for the federally endangered Schweinitz’s sunflower.

Calling all young wildlife detectives!

Animals leave clues everywhere they go, but can you spot them? Join Union County Soil & Water Conservation District and Union County Parks & Recreation for an exciting afternoon of discovery as we explore animal tracks, s**t, and other signs of wildlife at Jesse Helms Park.

Youth will learn how to identify common animals found in Union County and uncover the stories they leave behind in nature.

Union County participates in the North Carolina Beaver Management Assistance Program (BMAP), which helps public and private landowners address beaver-related concerns through cost-shared management services.

Whether you're a farmer, homeowner, business owner, or local government representative, BMAP may be able to help reduce the impacts of nuisance beaver activity while protecting natural resources.
