Yesterday our volunteer firefighters spent most of the day working with our outside contractor to conduct annual testing of all our fire hose, nozzles, and ladders. Our fire trucks and the majority of equipment they carry are subject to at least annual inspection and compliance testing.

We place great importance on complying with rigorous professional standards and regulations to ensure our equipment is fully operational and safe, and that we comply with ISO insurance rating documentation requirements to maintain our strong rating for Monroe property owners.

Around 11:30 today, Monroe firefighters and police responded to Church St between Abbey Rd and Founders Way where a large tree came down on the wires causing a fire in the roadway. Once Eversource secured the power, firefighters hosed down the area and cleared around 1:00. The road will remain closed for power restoration, tree removal, and road repairs due to damage from the heat of the fire.

At approximately 3pm Saturday first responders were called for a vehicle that drove into the Aldi market on Monroe Turnpike. Fortunately there were no injuries but the building sustained significant damage and is currently closed to customers until it can be assessed by structural engineers.

Firefighters addressed the utilities and other hazards and helped secure the scene.

Multiple agencies on scene for approx 90 mins included Monroe FD, PD, EMS, and Fire Marshal, Trumbull Building Dept, Monroe Health Dept, Monroe First Selectman and a tow operator.

Today’s Throwback Thursday takes us back to our 1986 Mack designated as Engine 204. This was a very unique piece and one of the first in the area to carry a high volume of large diameter supply hose, which has since become standard practice.

The engine carried 2 large reels that held a combined 4,400 ft of 5 inch supply hose (which made for a long day of annual hose testing). This engine was retired in 2009 and sold for parts.
