Final election results, only took 10 days!
Out of 8,550 votes the Levy passed with the close margin of only 72 more “yes” votes.
The bond (Prop 1) was defeated in the first round, as it required a 60% approval.

Well they found five more votes to count today, levy margin moved by 1, and is ahead by 72 votes. Another update tomorrow at 1:00, nine days after Election Day!

Update on MSD election only 24 more votes counted since Friday and the levy (prop 2) remains with the same margin - 73 votes ahead. The Bond the dead. Next update is Thursday 19th

The Levy (prop 2) has gained a few more yes vote and ahead by 73 votes reaching the 50% approval. The Bond continues to fail as it needs a 60% approval. Next update is Monday at 4:00 pm

Election update - levy is now passing by 57 votes still very close! The bond (prop 1) remains defeated as a 60% approval is needed. Next update is tomorrow at 4:00.

The MSD Bond and Levy are still failing.
• Yesterday, the Levy was failing by a 100-vote margin.
• Today, the margin has narrowed to 45 votes.
• The Levy requires 50% approval to pass.
• The Bond required 60% approval to pass.

Both the Monroe school district bond and levy at this time are not passing. Proposition 1 is the Bond needs 60% to approve and Proposition 2 the Levy needs 50% to approve

Excellent article from Snohomish Tribune on the MSD February 10th ballot

“The district promotes this bond with the false claim that it’s $152 million, however the full truth is this bond will cost Monroe property owners $277 million over the 21-year bond” because of bond debt interest, Kolrud said. “The district is promoting this bond at a projected tax rate of .62 cent per thousand of assessed property value, however that projected rate is only for the first year. The majority of the bond life, the projected rate is .82 per thousand of assessed property value.”

How much more in taxes will the Monroe School District levy cost?

For an $800,000 property, the previous levy resulted in $4,715.00 in property taxes. Under the proposed levy, that amount would increase to $6,818.00 for the same property.

This figure represents only part of the total school taxes. Property owners would still be responsible for the prior bond tax, in addition to the two state school tax obligations added to proptery taxes.

The proposed Monroe School District levy represents a 45% increase—from $69 million to $100 million—despite a decline in enrollment of 858 students.
