Summer is here and let's talk about safety from those UV rays. Sunscreen can help lower your risk of skin cancer but there are some things to keep in mind so it is most effective.

☀️ Use sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher. Choose sunscreen that is water resistant and that protects you from both UVA and UVB rays.

☀️ Apply sunscreen 15 minutes before going outside. This gives your skin time to absorb the sunscreen and protect you.

☀️ Apply about 1 ounce of sunscreen to cover your entire body. Cover any bare skin, such as your neck, ears, and the tops of your feet. Use lip balm with an SPF of at least 15 to protect your lips.

☀️ Reapply your sunscreen every 2 hours, or right after swimming or sweating. Make sure the sunscreen you're using hasn't expired.

WHY THIS MONTH MATTERS

Historically, men are far less likely to see a doctor for routine checkups compared to women. This contributes to men dying an average of nearly six years earlier than women and facing significantly higher rates for leading causes of death like heart disease, cancer, and diabetes.

WHAT YOU CAN DO

Preventive Care: Routine checkups are crucial for catching issues early before they become severe. Men should regularly be screened for prostate, lung, and colorectal cancers, as well as monitor their blood pressure and cholesterol. Schedule a Checkup

Mental Health: There is a "silent crisis" in men's mental well-being. Men are nearly four times more likely to die by su***de than women, largely due to social stigmas surrounding asking for help. If you or someone you know is struggling, help is available.

Lifestyle Changes: Simple, daily habits—like getting 7+ hours of sleep, exercising at least three times a week, and eating a heart-healthy diet—can drastically reduce chronic disease risks

You might be offered “free” products like back or knee braces, food, or additional benefits for your Medicare number. That’s a scam.

Families and caregivers, you can help protect your loved ones from being scammed. Talk to the older folks in your life about protecting their Medicare number like they would a bank account number.

Scammers will use a lot of tactics to get your Medicare number, so be aware of their tricks. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
