Morning Update from the Mayor:

Good morning, Elk Township.
I want to start today by thanking every single department and volunteer who has been out there working through one of the toughest nights our town has seen in a long time. This storm has brought down trees, knocked out power in several neighborhoods, and made travel incredibly difficult. However, our responding teams have been nothing short of remarkable.

Our Public Works crew has been battling tough conditions on the roads all night to keep routes passable. The Police Department has been handling a steady stream of calls and checking on residents who needed assistance. And our volunteer fire departments—fully staffed throughout the night—have been cutting trees, removing debris, and responding wherever they were needed. The dedication shown by our Public Works, Police, and Fire Departments is something we should never take for granted.

Even with all this hard work, there is still a lot to do today. Crews will continue clearing roads, addressing downed trees, and working with the utility companies to restore power as quickly and safely as possible. Please give them the space they need to work, stay off the roads if you can, and continue looking out for your neighbors.

Elk is a small town, but mornings like this remind us just how strong we are when we pull together. Thank you again to everyone who has been working tirelessly—and to all of you for your patience and cooperation.

Sincerely, Mayor James Rambo

Message from the Mayor

I want to take a moment before this blizzard hits to check in with our residents. The forecasts indicate this is going to be a significant storm, and we should all be ready for heavy snow, strong winds, and difficult travel conditions.

Our Public Works crews will be out there doing everything they can—plowing, salting, and clearing intersections. They’ll be working hard, and I’m asking everyone to have a little patience as they make their way through the town. They truly care about keeping our roads safe, and they’ll be giving it their all.

If you can, please stay off the roads once the snow starts. Make sure you’ve got what you need at home, check in on neighbors who might need a hand, and keep safety front and center. The more we all stay put, the easier it is for our crews and first responders to do their jobs.

We got through January's snow and ice storm by looking out for one another and making smart decisions. Let's do the same this time. Stay warm, stay safe, and take care of each other.

Sincerely, Mayor James Rambo

Date Issued: 2/21/2026
Prepared By: Lieutenant Jeff Franklin

In response to a weather forecast that shows the likelihood of a major winter storm with the possibility of heavy snow accumulations impacting our area from 2/22/26 thru 2/23/26, the Elk Township Police Department would like to remind the residents of Elk Township of the importance of removing vehicles parked on the roads owned and/or maintained by Elk Township Public Works (ETPW). Vehicles that are left parked on the roads impede the ability of ETPW to safely and efficiently remove the snow and ice from the roadways.

Residents are reminded of Township’s Local Ordinance 97-28 that temporarily prohibits the parking of vehicles on all Elk Township streets whenever snow and/or ice has fallen, and the accumulation is such that it covers the streets and highways.

The forecast, at the time of this writing, shows the probability of significant snow accumulation taking place beginning Sunday morning (2/22) and ending Monday evening (2/23). The forecast has the possibility of snow accumulations between 10 and 18 inches. This would mean a likelihood of hazardous road conditions that may last through Monday and possibly into Tuesday morning. Please remember to remove your vehicles from the street during this weather event. Elk Township Police Officers are required to patrol the streets of Elk Township, prior to the dispatch of ETPW plow vehicles, and notify the owners of any vehicles parks on the street, that they need to be removed.

The Elk Township Police Department appreciates your cooperation in helping to make the streets of Elk Township safer to travel during winter weather events.

Date Issued: 01/22/2026
Prepared By: Chief Lance Hitzelberger

In response to a weather forecast that shows the likelihood of a major winter storm with the possibility of heavy ice and/or snow accumulation impacting our area from 1/24/26 thru 1/26/26, the Elk Township Police Department would like to remind the residents of Elk Township of the importance of removing vehicles parked on the roads owned and/or maintained by Elk Township Public Works (ETPW).

The forecast, at the time of this writing, shows the probability of significant snow accumulation taking place from Saturday night (1/24) until late morning on Monday (1/26). The forecast has the possibility of ice/snow accumulation totaling over 12 inches. This would mean a likelihood of hazardous road conditions that may last through Monday and into Tuesday morning. Due to the frigid temperatures expected each night, there is a likelihood of a secondary freeze of melted snow making roads hazardous for several days after the storm has passed. Please remember to remove your vehicles from the street during this weather event. Elk Township Police Officers are required to patrol the streets of Elk Township, prior to the dispatch of ETPW plow vehicles, and notify the owners of any vehicles parked on the street, that they need to be removed.

The Elk Township Police Department appreciates your cooperation in helping to make the streets of Elk Township safer to travel during winter weather events.
