Another great Harvest Festival weekend! Our crews worked the derby both nights, rode in the parade Saturday and stood by for the dragon boat race Thursday night with our new water rescue equipment purchased by Monroe Twp last fall.

Thank you to our partners at Hoagland Volunteer Fire & EMS for their assistance working the derby as always!

Several incidents were handled throughout the weekend including multiple EMS assists and a 2 hour standby at NHFD after working the derby Friday night. Following the storm Sunday evening, the MVFD responded to a Fire Service Call removing a massive tree completely blocking Paulding Rd. Engine 32 with 4 firefighters used saws to cut and remove limbs with the help of some Zulu neighbors, ACPD and Fire 38 who brought his own tractor to clear bigger limbs and debris from the roadway.

At 11:26 this morning the MVFD, Monroeville EMS and Hoagland Volunteer Fire & EMS were dispatched to SR 101 and Hoagland Rd reference a two vehicle MVC with multiple people pinned. At 11:29, Engine 32, Medic 135 and Medic 35 were all responding.

Engine 32 arrived with ACPD at 11:32 finding two vehicles East of the intersection with heavy damage. Both drivers were trapped. MVFD units immediately began extricating the patients with the jaws of life. The first patient was extricated at 11:35, and the second at 11:41. The patients were transported to local hospitals by Medic 35 and Medic 135. The cause is under investigation, and the MVFD wish’s a speedy recovery to all involved.

The rapid deployment of appropriately staffed emergency vehicles from stations that are right where they need to be, resulted in 2 patients extricated and headed to the hospital in under 10 minutes of the first units arrival at the scene. We are very proud of our dedicated volunteers who consistently get out fast, and in large number for serious incidents such as today. We hope this tradition will continue onward with ACFD.

A very active 5 year Firefighter/EMT with the MVFD, Jaxon has been hired on at Adams Co. Sheriff’s Department as their newest Deputy.

Congratulations Jaxon!

Today we celebrate Jaxon Love for completing 3 years with the Adams County Sheriff's Office. He began his career as a Confinement Officer and has recently been named as the newest deputy. Congratulations, Deputy Love!

Last evening at 21:03 the MVFD was dispatched to SR 101 and Monroeville Rd reference a Structure Fire. Within three minutes of dispatch, Engine 32 was in route with an All-Volunteer NFPA compliant crew of 4 Firefighters, shortly followed by three additional MVFD apparatus and Medic 35. Crews from Hoagland Volunteer Fire & EMS and East Central Fire & EMS also responded as automatic aid.

Engine 32 arrived finding a semi trailer, debris and a fence on fire with multiple exposures. The fire was quickly brought under control, and was out within 30 minutes of the dispatch. Several units were quickly returned to service for Southeast Fire/EMS coverage while crews remained on the scene to mop up. The cause is still under investigation.

A timely response from appropriately staffed apparatus is paramount to ensure the safety of both community members and firefighters. The MVFD is proud to serve, and we hope Allen County Fire & EMS District- ACFD will work with us to ensure our over 150 year tradition of serving our neighbors at the highest level will continue.

This evening, past MVFD Chief Dean Reidenbach was presented his 50 year IVFA Gold Card by IVFA District 7 Chairman Caleb Vanlandingham and MVFD Chief Sam Hetler. Congratulations Dean, and thank you for your many years of service to our department and community!

This evening our crews trained on NFPA 1410 forward lay drills as well as pumping operations.

First, at the residence at one of our firefighters, Engine 32 dropped off a firefighter to hook to and operate a fire hydrant, then E32 drove onward to the front of the house leaving a trail of supply hose between the hydrant and engine. The remaining crew members completed a scene size up and stretched a hand line to the front door. Crews went on air and continuously flowed water until the driver established a water supply between the engine and the hydrant to complete the drill.

Later crews cycled through timed drills at the Monroeville industrial park. Crews had to get Engine 32 parked, in gear, pumping a high volume of water and hooked to a hydrant without running out of water.

We are very thankful for our all volunteer crew’s dedication and continual training, sharpening skills to better serve our community.

This morning the MVFD was dispatched along with Hoagland Volunteer Fire & EMS to assist East Central Fire & EMS on a reported tractor fire deep in a field off of US 30 just outside New Haven. Grass Rig 39 responded and assisted HVFD Grass Rig 139 and ECFT Engine 261 in extinguishing the fire. Crews had to use extreme caution due to an anhydrous ammonia tank being so close to the fire.

Following the decision to join the Allen County Fire & EMS District- ACFD made by The Town of Monroeville, Monroe and Jackson Townships, Madison Township - Allen County, Indiana and the Monroeville EMS, the Monroeville Volunteer Fire Department has signed a letter of intent to join the ACFD.

Our volunteers will proudly continue serving alongside the career staff that will be placed in our community by the ACFD. We hope the District truly improves the service in our community as they’ve advertised.

This coming Thursday June 4th from 5-9 come on out to the Monroeville Car Show and summer concert series kickoff concert! The MVFD will be selling Sausage Sandwiches, chips and beverages.
