The Alabama Association of Conservation Districts is pleased to announce the selection of Grace Ellis as Assistant Executive Director. This decision reflects AACD’s continued commitment to strengthening organizational capacity, enhancing statewide support for our districts, and ensuring a smooth leadership transition in the years ahead.

Mrs. Ellis brings extensive experience in agriculture, conservation, and statewide association leadership.
Grace is no stranger to the conservation family as she has served as a district supervisor in Autauga County for the past 9 and a half years and as the Area IV President the last two years. She has most recently served as executive director of the Alabama Agribusiness Council.

Grace’s leadership, professionalism, and deep understanding of Alabama’s agricultural and conservation landscape will be valuable assets to AACD.

📢 NRCS FY27 Funding Deadline Announced!

Attention Alabama Landowners & Agricultural Producers!

The USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) has announced September 25, 2026 as the first batching deadline for Fiscal Year 2027 financial assistance programs.

NRCS programs provide financial and technical assistance to eligible landowners and agricultural producers to help address natural resource concerns and implement conservation practices that can improve soil health, water quality, wildlife habitat, air quality, and overall resource management.

📅 First FY27 Batching Deadline: September 25, 2026

Applications are accepted on a continuous basis, but applications are periodically selected for funding through batching periods. Applications received after September 25th will be held and considered during subsequent funding announcements as funds permit.

🌱 Digging Deep into Soil Science!
What a great hands-on learning experience with our 4-H Homeschool Club and Camille Place residents! Today, our students got to dig a little deeper—literally—into the amazing world beneath our feet. 🪱🌿
Students explored the different soil horizons and learned how each layer has unique characteristics and plays an important role in supporting plant life. We talked about what makes healthy soil, why soil is such an important natural resource, and how we can protect and improve it.
🔬 We also learned about soil testing and pH, discovering how testing helps us understand what our soil needs for plants to grow successfully.
💧 Soil erosion was another important topic as students learned how water, wind, and human activity can move valuable topsoil and why conservation practices are essential to protecting our soil.
🌳 We wrapped up the lesson with ecological succession, learning how plant and animal communities change over time as an ecosystem develops and recovers from disturbance.
And, of course, we had to make learning a little more delicious! 😋 Students created their own edible soil profiles using food items, layering their “soil horizons” and then enjoying their tasty creations as a snack. 🍪🍫🥣
It was a fun combination of science, agriculture, conservation, hands-on learning, and a little creativity—proof that learning can happen anywhere, even one soil horizon (and snack!) at a time! 🌎🌱

The Monroe County Rodeo was an absolute blast! 🤠 We loved seeing so many members of our community come out and support this great event.

A big thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth! We hope you enjoyed the fans, glow sticks, and pig squishies. 🐷✨
