On the afternoon of 2/17/26 the Monroeville Police Department became aware of multiple Post on social media spreading information about a Vehicle Pursuit which took place earlier in the day. We would like to correct some misinformation being spread to the public.
Around 8am on Tuesday morning, Investigators with the Monroeville Police Department were investigating a shooting which occurred at Rockwood Apartments on Saturday morning. Investigators were attempting to locate a person of interest related to that shooting when that individual fled in a vehicle. The pursuit was initiated by an unmarked unit on East Claiborne St. but turned over to marked patrol unit just North of Monroeville on Hwy 21 North. The pursuit travelled North on Hwy 21 through Beatrice, at which point Monroe County Sheriff’s Deputy was involved in an accident with a Tractor Trailer transporting logs. At that point the unmarked unit stopped to provide aid at the accident. The two marked Monroeville Police Department patrol units continued north pursuing the vehicle. The pursuit continued North into Butler County at which point the Butler County Sheriff’s Office and Greenville Police Department took lead of the pursuit. The vehicle continued until it crashed into a parked vehicle in Greenville at which point the driver exited the vehicle and fled on foot but was captured a short distance away.
The driver, Destin Casey, was then transported to the Butler County Jail. Mr. Casey and the vehicle he was in were then transported back to the Monroeville Police Department. Located inside the vehicle driven by Mr. Casey were two fi****ms. Mr. Casey was then booked into the Monroe County Detention Facility on the following charges: Felony Attempting to Elude, and Certain Person forbidden to Possess Fi****ms.
We would ask that everyone keep the Monroe County Sheriff’s Deputy and the Tractor Trailer Driver in your prayers as they recover from the accident. We would like to thank all of the agencies that assisted in the pursuit or responded to the accident: Greenville Police Department, Monroeville Fire Department, Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Butler County Sheriff’s Office, Wilcox County Sheriff’s Office, Enterprise EMS, Monroe County EMA. In addition we would like to thank the driver of the tractor trailer involved in the accident and the citizens of Monroe County which stopped to assist officers at the accident.
Our department is still investigating the Shooting at Rockwood Apartments, anyone with information is asked to contact the Monroeville Police Department, 251-575-3246.
