Supporting our community beyond the firehouse.

Gregg Township Fire Department was honored to take Engine 121 out to support the Martinsville Music Department’s car wash fundraiser this weekend.

As a department, we’re always happy to support the young people in our Morgan County community, and it was especially meaningful to us this weekend, as one of the orchestra students is the daughter of one of our own firefighters.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to show up and support the students who work so hard to share their talents with our community.

We may serve Gregg Township, but our community reaches far beyond our firehouse doors.

Gregg Township Fire Department would like to congratulate Fire Chief Rob Stecher on completing the Fire Chief Executive Training Program through the Indiana Fire & Public Safety Academy

Chief Stecher spent the past week continuing his education and professional development, focusing on the leadership, management, and organizational responsibilities that come with serving as a fire chief.

Leading a fire department involves much more than responding to emergencies. It requires planning for the future, managing resources, developing personnel, making difficult decisions, and ensuring that the department remains prepared to meet the changing needs of the community.

We appreciate Chief Stecher’s continued dedication to improving himself as a leader and investing the time necessary to better serve the department and the citizens of Gregg Township.

🔥 TRAINING NEVER STOPS 🔥

Last night, members of the Gregg Township Fire Department spent the evening sharpening their skills with hands-on training focused on hose loads and hose advancement.

Crews worked on properly loading hose, deploying attack lines, advancing charged hose lines, and improving the teamwork and communication needed to move lines efficiently when it matters most.

A big THANK YOU to John Sego with IFD for taking the time to come out and provide the instruction. We greatly appreciate him sharing his knowledge and experience with our members.

Training on the fundamentals builds stronger firefighters, stronger crews, and a department that is better prepared to serve our community.

Great turnout and great work by everyone who participated!

This week Chief Stecher is in class with Fire Chiefs from all over the state. We are always working on improving and growing.

Day 2 of the Indiana Fire Chief’s Academy focused on several core elements of effective fire service leadership.

Today, students learned about:
• Strategic Planning
• Organizational Leadership
• Discipline and accountability
• Tools and tips for managing cognitive overload and preventing burnout
These lessons help newly appointed chiefs strengthen decision making, lead their organizations confidently, and maintain personal resilience in demanding roles.

Statement from the Gregg Township Fire Department

The Gregg Township Fire Department wishes to address recent public concerns regarding
former member Roger Kemp and to clarify the current status of our organization.
Roger Kemp resigned from the Gregg Township Volunteer Fire Department on February 5,
2026. Following his resignation, the former corporation determined it was appropriate to
remove him from the organization.
Since that time, our department has undergone complete organizational restructuring. We
are now operating as the Gregg Township Fire Department, a new corporation with new
leadership, new members, new policies, new procedures, and newly adopted bylaws. Our
department has established a comprehensive hiring and vetting process designed to
ensure we maintain the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and accountability.
We are aware of the recent criminal charges involving Roger Kemp. Because this is an
active legal matter, we will not comment on the specifics of the case. However, we want to
make it clear that the alleged conduct reported publicly does not reflect the values,
principles, or expectations of the Gregg Township Fire Department. We do not condone any
behavior that undermines the trust our community places in us.
The Gregg Township Fire Department is committed to serving the residents of Gregg
Township and the surrounding communities with professionalism, honesty, and respect.
Every member of our department is expected to uphold these values and to conduct
themselves in a manner that reflects positively on the fire service.
We recognize that public trust is earned through our actions. Our administration and
membership remain dedicated to continuous improvement, transparency, and providing
the highest level of service to those who depend on us.

Please join us in wishing Congratulations and great job to 4 of our members on completing their SDI Open Water Scuba certifications. This is the first step to becoming a public safety diver.

Here at Gregg Twp we are lucky to have a relationship with Do It Right Diving which allows our members to participate in a wide range of special operations training. This weekend we were lucky enough to have Chief Stecher and Lt. Morton in teaching this class.

Member Spotlight – Firefighter Jebadiah McKinney

Yesterday morning , while leaving the Brooklyn Diner, Firefighter Jebadiah McKinney noticed what he initially believed to be a campfire next to a garage. Within seconds, he realized the garage itself was on fire.

Without hesitation, Firefighter McKinney pulled over, alerted the homeowner—who was inside asleep—and immediately called 911. With the assistance of a neighbor who provided a fire extinguisher, he was able to knock down the fire and keep it under control until the local fire department arrived.

Once fire crews were on scene, Firefighter McKinney continued to assist with fire suppression and overhaul operations.

Because of his quick thinking, decisive actions, and dedication to serving others, the fire was contained before it could fully consume the garage. What could have been a total loss resulted in only minimal damage.

This is exactly the type of commitment and professionalism we are proud to see from our members. Whether they’re on duty, responding to calls, or simply going about their day, they remain ready to serve their communities whenever the need arises.

Thank you, Firefighter Jebadiah McKinney, for your vigilance, selfless actions, and outstanding representation of the Gregg Township Fire Department. We are proud to have you as part of our family.

Service doesn’t end when the pager is quiet—it is a commitment that our members carry with them every day.

The past 2 days our crews have assisted Monroe Township Fire with live burns. Over the past 2 days we have had 9 of our members participate and get some great experience with live fire skills.

Even during this training we have continuing our commitment to staffing the station with trained and certified members to respond in our district

Our crews continue to train every day as training is the best way for us to be prepared to handle the emergencies we get called to. Great job again to all of our members your commitment is amazing.
