Looks like we are finally expecting some weather coming our way!!

Northern California will probably see a winter storm around late Sunday into early next week. 1-2 feet or snow is possible above 5000 feet. Snow levels are expected to lower to 4500 ft Sunday night then down to 4000 ft Monday. Snow levels lower further Monday night into Tuesday, possibly as low as 2000 ft by Tuesday morning.

Today you probably noticed some activity at the station today. We helped host a community emergency response team CERT that Siskiyou County Office of Emergency Services put on. We were able to assist with fire extinguisher and cribbing training for the team. They will be finishing up tomorrow. We are thankful to help get more community members active and helping in our communities when a big disaster strikes.

Finally winter is on the way. We need some precipitation bad!! We sure do welcome this weather.

Active weather returns this week as the first in a series of fronts arrives late tonight into Monday. This front will be rather weak compared to the Tuesday and late week systems. Expect increasing winds and light to moderate rain along/west of the Cascades into Monday. Late Tuesday into Wednesday, a stronger front arrives with gusty winds area wide, strongest along the coast and east of the Cascades (damaging winds possible). Widespread rainfall is also expected, heaviest along the coast and Cascades. With snow levels remaining high (6000-8000 ft), winter impacts are minimal at this time. Showers linger into Wednesday and snow levels lower to around 4500-5000 ft, which could bring some light snow to the Cascades. An atmospheric river arrives on Thursday, bringing another round of strong winds and moderate to heavy precipitation, both of which are expected to last longer than the Tuesday front. Snow levels rise again to 6000-7000 ft so winter weather impacts will be minimal with the heaviest precipitation which expected through Thursday. Precipitation intensity winds down on Friday, but snow levels lower to around 35000-4000 ft Friday night, which could bring some minor snow impacts to the Cascades and East Side areas into Saturday morning. Gusty winds will make for difficult driving conditions and some power outages may be possible. Currently, there is little to no flooding concerns due to low rivers and little to no snowpack, though we may need to monitor the Coquille River towards the end of the week. Ponding on roadways is possible during periods of heavy rain. Stay tuned for updates as details are refined over the coming days.

Have some more wind and rain coming our way next week.

Have some more wind and rain coming our way next week.

Active weather returns late Monday, with stronger systems to follow Tuesday afternoon into Wednesday evening, and Thursday into Friday. The strongest of these fronts arrives late Tuesday and Wednesday with moderate to heavy rain, and also strong southerly winds to the coast, East of the Cascades and in the Shasta Valley. Snow levels will be high. The third system arrives Thursday into Friday bringing additional rain and gusty winds to the area. Along the coast, high surf conditions are likely which combined with high King Tides are expected to bring dangerous beach conditions.

RIP to a fallen hero.

Our REACH family is devastated to share that Susan “Suzie” Smith has passed away from injuries sustained during the accident involving helicopter N414RX on Highway 50 on Monday night.

We will remember Suzie as a pillar of the EMS and healthcare community who saved countless lives by delivering compassionate care in their darkest hours. Suzie’s 50-year career as a nurse included nearly 21 years with REACH, and we are proud to call her our colleague and friend. We hope she is remembered for the light she brought to every call, every shift, and every patient she blessed with her care.

We grieve Suzie’s loss with her family, friends, colleagues and the entire community that she faithfully served. Her impact will be felt for years to come through the lives she touched, the teams she strengthened, and the compassion she embodied. Thank you for keeping Suzie’s loved ones and our REACH family in your thoughts and support for our team during this difficult time.

Fall is finally coming!!! But with the weather coming means the wind will be back. Batten down the hatches again in the wonderful Shasta valley tunnel.

Fall weather arrives this week as a series of fronts pass through the area beginning Monday, in what will be the first wet and windy event of the season. Widespread wetting rains are expected across the area. Winter weather impacts are not expected, as now level will remain above 7000 feet, but ponding water and slippery roads are possible. Gusty winds are also expected with these fronts, with stronger winds in the Shasta Valley, along the coast, across the East Side, and over high terrain. With the long dry summer and leaves yet to fall, area trees will be more susceptible to wind damage. A few power outages are possible. Finally, temperatures will cool dramatically to below normal for this time of year.
