We Will Always Remember
On September 11, 2001, countless heroes gave everything—some by choice, rushing in to save lives, and others by circumstance, taken too soon. Their sacrifice, courage, and love for others will never be forgotten.

Today, we honor their memory. We carry their legacy in our hearts. And we remind ourselves that even in the face of unimaginable tragedy, the human spirit can rise with resilience, unity, and hope.

We will always remember. 🇺🇸💔

ILLEGAL USE OF FIREWORKS
Fireworks are prohibited in all areas of the Mat-Su Borough outside of the cities of Houston. If you are within Houston city’s limits, contact that city for their governing law regarding the use of fireworks. There are exceptions for New Year’s Eve, but not for Independence Day. For questions, reach out to our Code Compliance Department at 907-861-7822, or refer to Borough Code linked below.

FIRE DANGER IS HIGH:
The Mat-Su is currently under a DNR burn permit suspension. It's easy to assume a few days of rain can take us out danger, but a couple of days of rain does not make up for the extra dry conditions that we are experiencing in the Mat-Su and beyond. A single rogue firework can cause unimaginable destruction.

LIMITED WILDLAND FIREFIGHTING RESOURCES
The situation across the state has necessitated the sharing of our resources across the state, where there are people currently losing their homes. The Alaska Division of Forestry and Fire Protection do a great job managing those resources but we can not ignore the special challenges they are facing right now with all the fire currently burning in our State. As of this posting, there are 195 active fires with 6 new fire discovered yesterday and today.

There is a time and place for fireworks in the Mat-Su and this July 4th is not it. Save them for New Year’s Eve when it is legal and safe.
