The East End Osprey population has been flourishing, with the help of man-made prepared nesting posts, the number of active nesting sites doubling in just a handful of years.

They love the shoreline on the Long Island Sound, but storms and coastal winds keep them in check. Adjacent to the Bays of Peconic, Gardiners, Shinnecock, and Mecox lay the densest population of breeding Ospreys on the North Fork of Long Island.

They thrive on the brackish creeks, coves, and small bays and feed their chicks "bunker" fish (Menhaden).

Their plight analogous to the American Bald Eagle's rebirth in this area, but comes with a consolation, as the Eagles love to sn**ch up the Osprey's chicks.
