Congratulations, Officer Jessica Moorman!
MONTE VISTA, Colo. - We are proud to announce that Officer Jessica Moorman has officially been accepted as a nominee for National Life Group's Do Good Heroes program, which recognizes first responders who go above and beyond their public safety duties through service to their communities.
Officer Moorman was nominated for her leadership and coordination of Monte Vista's 2026 First Responders
Night Out.
Officer Moorman spent weeks helping bring together first responders, City staff, community organizations, local businesses, volunteers, families, and residents for an evening focused on something incredibly important, building relationships between first responders and the community we serve.
While Officer Moorman led the effort, First Responders Night Out showed what can happen when an entire community comes together. It took many people working behind the scenes, donating resources, setting up, participating, and supporting one another to make the event successful. It takes all of us.
In a small community like Monte Vista, relationships matter. Community policing isn't only about responding when something goes wrong. It is also about being present when things are going right, getting to know our children and families, and building trust one interaction at a time.
Officer Moorman's leadership is a great example of the kind of service we want to represent at the Monte Vista Police Department.
Please join us in congratulating Officer Jessica Moorman on this well-deserved national nomination!

MONTE VISTA CELEBRATES A SUCCESSFUL FIRST RESPONDERS NIGHT OUT
The Monte Vista Police Department extends its sincere appreciation to everyone who participated in this year’s First Responders Night Out.

Community members, first responders, partnering agencies, and local organizations came together for an evening of fellowship, public safety education, and community engagement. The strong turnout and positive response demonstrated the meaning behind this year’s theme:

“It Takes All Kinds - One Team. One Community.”

The success of this event reflects the partnerships and shared commitment required to serve the City of Monte Vista, Rio Grande County, and the greater San Luis Valley. We are grateful to every agency, organization, volunteer, and community member who contributed their time, resources, and support.

The department also recognizes Officer Jessica Moorman for her dedication and commitment in organizing and coordinating this major community event. Her work, combined with the support of MVPD’s sworn officers and professional staff, helped bring our partners and community together for a memorable evening.

Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make First Responders Night Out a success. We are proud to serve a community that supports its first responders and continues to demonstrate what we can accomplish when we work together.

BACK TO SCHOOL: DRIVE SAFELY MONTE VISTA!
This week, students across our community will begin heading back to school, and the Monte Vista Police Department is asking everyone to help us start the school year safely.

With students walking and biking through our neighborhoods, school buses making their routes, and increased traffic around our schools, we ask drivers to slow down, allow extra time, eliminate distractions, and pay close attention, especially in and around school zones and residential neighborhoods.

The Monte Vista Police Department will be out in our school areas and working closely with our local schools
to help keep students, families, and staff safe as the new school year begins.

Keeping our students safe is a community responsibility. We ask everyone to do their part:
• Slow down and obey school-zone speed limits.
• Watch carefully for children walking or biking.
• Stop for school buses when required.
• Put the phone down and stay focused on the road.
• Allow yourself a few extra minutes to get where you are going.

Our students are one of the most important parts of our community.

Take your time, pay attention, and help us make sure every student gets to school and back home safely.

From all of us at the Monte Vista Police Department, we wish our students, teachers, staff, and families a safe and successful 2026–2027 school year!
