Ernie Watts 🙌🏽 ~ How was your Viernes Santo?
Growing up, our father was like a jukebox, always filling our home with music. Because of him, my siblings and I were exposed to so many sounds, so many rhythms, that all of us picked an instrument we learned to play..
music became as natural as breathing or drinking water in our home. It wasn’t just something we did on special occasions , it became essential to who we are.
Last night, I gifted myself a moment… a little gem. Sitting there, listening to him tear that sax up, I found myself overwhelmed with emotion. It brought tears to my eyes.
Not because of how incredible he is, but because it reminded me of my father, who gave us the gift of truly feeling music.
He taught us how music could ground us… relax us, uplift us, energize us. How it could be a refuge from whatever noise the world throws our way.
That’s what music is for me.
Universal.
A force that brings people together in a peaceful….literally harmonious space.
A place where, even if just for a moment, we can be carried away…
by a rainbow of notes, never heard before and somehow always felt.
