Agriculture is the Heart of Marquette County

Did you know that agriculture in Marquette County contributes $356 million to the economy? UW-Extension agriculture educators are here to be the bridge to help farmers access university research to inform and improve their farm management decision-making.

Marquette County is currently part of a formalized agreement with six other counties (Green Lake, Adams, Juneau, Waushara, Wood, and Portage) known as the Central Wisconsin Agriculture Specialization team that allows each agriculture educator to specialize in a topic area to provide better access to information. Lyssa Seefeldt, the agriculture educator in Marquette County specializes in livestock production. Other educators specialize in dairy production, agronomy, commercial vegetable production, forages, farm business management, and soils management. Farmers in Marquette County have access to each of these specialized educators and can access them through their local agent or directly at their respective county office.

Cooperative Extension Roots

Cooperative Extension in Wisconsin has been around since 1912 when E.L. Luther was hired as a County Agent in Oneida County. Luther was the first agent in the United States to be paid fully with public funds.
