Looking for rain? 🌧️ On Saturday, a cold front will bring rain showers to the Bay Area. Rainfall amounts will be light.

Did you know that roads are extra slick when it rains after a long stretch of dry weather? That's because pollutants from vehicles and tires build up on roads until it rains. But before the rain can wash the gunk away, roads can be very slick. That's the situation we'll be in on Saturday, so slow down and use caution if you're driving in the rain.

***The Advisory has been cancelled***

Original Post:

Winds will subside for most areas on Monday, but remain dry and from the north. However, the winds are forecast to continue to remain gusty in elevated areas of the North Bay Mountains and East Bay Hills. Therefore, for those two areas only, the Wind Advisory has been extended to Tuesday morning. At this time, the Advisory will still expire for the Coastal Peninsula, Santa Cruz Mountains, and East Bay Valleys at 9 AM PST.

As the system passes, there is still a slight chance for isolated showers for the Central Coast, with minimal accumulations. But as the system passes, winds will shift to the north and become gusty. ⚠️ A Wind Advisory ⚠️ will be in effect from Sunday to Monday morning for parts of the Bay Area. An area of low pressure will move through the region on Sunday and create dry and gusty north winds from 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph. Potential impacts from the wind include downed tree limbs and power lines, isolated power outages, and difficult driving for high profile vehicles or those pulling trailers. Additionally, fuels are at record dry levels. Given the dry February, concern for wildfires is real given the dry and windy weather. Don't be the spark! 🔥

With two and a half hours until midnight, to give it credit, the atmosphere is trying! There are weak echoes on radar passing over the North Bay. Below is an image from a disdrometer in Cazadero. It displays elevated precipitation passing (the oranges/yellows towards the right of the graph), but just too much dry air near the surface for it to make it down.

It's looking more and more likely that no rain will fall this month in Downtown San Francisco. It's often much wetter in the North Bay as one gets on the other side of the Golden Gate. Yet the Sonoma Airport has recorded no rainfall this month. There is a chance of some light rain on Sunday as a cold front moves through. However, even as rain chances may return for March the values are still expected to be less than normal with no big storms forecast through the beginning of March.
