☀️ HEAT ADVISORY: Staying Safe in the Heat Today ☀️

If you are heading outside today (Saturday, June 13), make sure you are prepared for hot conditions! A Heat Advisory is in effect through 7:00 PM this evening for the Interior East Bay and South Bay.

Temperatures are expected to climb into the lower 90s to near 100°F in our warmer inland areas, bringing a Moderate HeatRisk. This means the heat can easily affect individuals sensitive to heat, especially those without adequate cooling or anyone spending extended time outdoors.

How to stay safe today:

Hydrate often: Drink plenty of water throughout the day, even if you don't feel thirsty. 💧

Shift your schedule: Plan strenuous outdoor activities, workouts, or yard work for the cooler early morning or late evening hours. 🏃‍♂️🌅

Look before you lock: Never leave children or pets unattended in vehicles for any reason. Temperatures inside a parked car can reach lethal levels in a matter of minutes. 🚗🐶

Find shade or AC: Take frequent breaks in air-conditioned indoor spaces if you have to be outside.

A Beach Hazards Statement is in effect from 3 AM Sunday through 3 AM Wednesday for Pacific Coast beaches. Long-period S-SW swell will generate hazardous conditions at the beach, including sneaker waves and strong rip currents. Stay back from the water’s edge, stay off of jetties and piers, and NEVER turn your back on the ocean.

🌫️ A Tale of Two Climates Today: Coastal Relief vs. Interior Heat

Check out this satellite imagery from this morning! Yesterday's robust southerly surge has successfully pushed a thick blanket of marine stratus and fog up the Central Coast and into the San Francisco Bay Area. If you are near the coast or the immediate bayshore, you will notice significantly cooler conditions today compared to yesterday.

🌡️ Inland Heat Advisory Remains Active
Despite the coastal cooling, the marine layer remains very shallow and won't offer much relief to our interior valleys. A Heat Advisory remains in effect until 7:00 PM this evening for:

📍The Santa Clara Valley and Eastern Hills

📍The East Bay Hills and Valleys

Temperatures in these areas will still pose a moderate risk for heat-related illnesses, especially for sensitive groups, outdoor workers, and those without adequate air conditioning.

👉 Safety Reminders:

Drink plenty of water and don't wait until you're thirsty.

Never leave children or pets unattended in vehicles.

Take frequent breaks if working or spending time outdoors.

Stay cool, stay hydrated, and have a safe Friday! ☀️🕶️
