The Monterey Community Center (MCC) is a vibrant, inclusive space dedicated to fostering education, arts, wellness, and social connections for individuals of all ages. Housed in the historic Wilson/McLaughlin House, a property rich with Monterey's history, the MCC serves as a central gathering place for a variety of activities and events. In 1995, longtime resident Edith Lavinia Wilson (1913–1995)
bequeathed her 28.6-acre property, including the 187-year-old Wilson/McLaughlin House, to the Town of Monterey. The town accepted this generous gift in May 1996, with the stipulation that the farmhouse be used for municipal purposes. After years of dedicated renovation efforts, the MCC officially opened its doors on April 12, 2017. The MCC is committed to providing a warm and welcoming environment for all community members. We host a diverse range of programs and events, including classes, workshops, and social gatherings, aimed at enriching the lives of our residents and visitors. Whether you're interested in participating in educational workshops, enjoying cultural performances, engaging in wellness activities, or connecting with neighbors, the MCC offers something for everyone. Situated just a short walk from Lake Garfield, our historic building and its surrounding 28.6 acres provide ample space for various activities. The grounds feature a community garden where members can cultivate their own produce, herbs, or flowers, promoting sustainability and shared learning. The open land is also maintained for park and recreational purposes, offering a serene environment for relaxation and community events. We invite all community members to join us in our mission to create a thriving, connected, and engaged community. Visit us to learn more about our programs, participate in upcoming events, or simply enjoy the beauty of our historic site. At the Monterey Community Center, every individual is valued, and together, we continue to build a vibrant community for all.
