The Monterey Fire Company is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization which owns the Monterey Fire Station and the Pavilion. We garage, provide management of and trained staffing of the Town of Monterey's emergency response vehicles.

Last night, members of the Monterey Fire Department participated in a multi-department rural water supply training hosted by Great Barrington Fire Department.

Crews practiced setting up and operating a water supply system in areas without access to fire hydrants. Focusing on water shuttle operations, tanker coordination, drafting, and efficient water movement.

These multi-department training sessions are a great opportunity to sharpen our skills, work with neighboring departments, and strengthen the teamwork that is so important when responding to incidents in our rural communities.

A big thank you to Great Barrington Fire Department for inviting us and everyone who participated and helped make the training a success!

Today, we say a difficult goodbye to Deputy Chief Chris Tryon as he rides the truck for the last time after 26 years with the Department.

Chris joined the Monterey Fire Department at 13 years old, following suit with the family business as a third generator Monterey Firefighter. Rising through the ranks in the Department, he became Deputy Chief in 2014 following the retirement of Maynard Forbes. In 2025, he was hired as Monterey's first full time Deputy Chief.

Chris largely helped pioneer the culture that set our Department apart from the norm of other small departments. Striving for competency, researching the newest updated skills and tactics, conducting constant training and drills, and showing excellence on the fireground. Behind the scenes, Chris took it upon himself to face the townspeople to demonstrate the commitment of the Department to the people we serve and the need for budgetary support.

Chris, we thank you for your lifelong commitment and dedication to the Town of Monterey. The lives you've helped are countless, the impact you've made on this Department is immeasurable, and the legacy you've helped build will continue to guide those who follow behind. We wish you all the best in your next chapter.
