'92 NPS alumnus, U.S. Navy Adm. Daryl Caudle assumed the duties as 34th Chief of Naval Operations today, congratulations! In his first video message to the Fleet, CNO Caudle outlined his priorities and vision for the U.S. Navy, focusing on Sailors, readiness, modernization and expanding the Fleet.
CNO Caudle conveyed a sense of urgency in his message, and envisions a larger, more capable Fleet: "We will accelerate the adoption of cutting-edge technologies like artificial intelligence, unmanned systems, cyber tools, and advanced stealth technologies to stay ahead of our competitors."
In the above critical technology areas, and more, NPS develops innovative warfighting solutions and leaders educated to understand and employ them. In fact, during Adm. Caudle's confirmation hearing for CNO, he directly referenced his studies at NPS during the discussion with Congressional leaders on the urgency of deploying directed energy weapons, "Senator, my master’s degree from the Naval Postgraduate School back in 1990 through 1992 was in directed energy. My thesis was on high-powered lasers. If confirmed, I will make that a priority, because it is an infinite magazine, if you will, especially against certain targets.”
NPS President retired U.S. Navy Vice Adm. Ann Rondeau said that, “We are proud to see Adm. Caudle become CNO—all of our alumni are high-impact, and highly sought-after. NPS will continue to provide responsive, relevant education with cutting-edge research to advance warfighting advantage for our Navy and DOD, ensuring our defense leaders have the knowledge and capabilities they need to stay ahead."
