🔥 Community Recognition & Congratulations 🔥

The Montesano Fire Department would like to proudly recognize Gene “Verdie” Goodner on being awarded 2025 Firefighter of the Year by the Wynooche #43 Free and Accepted Masons.

Gene’s dedication to both his peers and the greater Montesano community is truly something special. He has fully immersed himself into this department and this town, consistently showing up as a phenomenal teammate, mentor, and leader. His commitment, work ethic, and willingness to support those around him embody what it means to serve with integrity. This recognition is well-earned, and we’re proud to have him as part of our fire family.

We would also like to extend a huge congratulations to Officer Elliot Nelson, recipient of the 2025 Police Officer of the Year award. Officer Nelson works tirelessly to keep our community safe and is an incredible asset to Montesano. His dedication and professionalism do not go unnoticed.

👏 Congratulations to both of these outstanding public servants—and thank you for everything you do for our community.

This Thanksgiving, our shift gathered around the table not just as coworkers, but as family.

Amid the hum of the station and the occasional radio traffic, we paused long enough to share a meal, laughter, and stories with those closest to us.

Holidays look a little different when you work in fire and EMS. We don’t always get to be home, but we’re reminded daily of what truly matters: the people who show up. The hands that help. The voices that encourage. The ones who answer the pager and the ones who answer our late-night vent sessions. The community that trusts us to care for them.

Gratitude isn’t just a feeling today — it’s a duty. A quiet acknowledgment that while the job can be heavy, we don’t carry it alone.

So today, we say thank you to:
• Our families, for sharing us when the tones drop.
• Our coworkers, for steady hands on scene and steady hearts in the kitchen.
• Our volunteers, for sacrificing dinners, sleep, and holidays to serve something bigger than themselves.
• And to the entire Montesano community, for welcoming us, supporting us, and reminding us why we do what we do.

If this kind of camaraderie speaks to you — the kind that turns strangers into teammates and teammates into kin — come see us. We’re always looking for more helpers, more hearts, more grit. Volunteer applications are waiting at the station.

From our table to yours, we wish you a safe, happy, and deeply fulfilling Thanksgiving.

Take care of one another. Hold your people close. And help us keep this wonderful community safe.

🦃🍂 Happy Thanksgiving, Montesano. Stay safe out there. 🚒❤️

🔥 Live Fire Training – November 9th 🔥

This past weekend, Montesano Fire crews teamed up with Grays East Grays Harbor Fire And Rescue down at the MERTZ training facility in Astoria, Oregon for a full day of live fire evolutions and hands-on tactical drills.

From interior fire attack and search operations to hose advancement and ventilation practice — crews put in the work, sharpened their skills, and strengthened the teamwork that keeps our community safe. 💪

A big thank-you to East Grays Harbor Fire And Rescue for joining us and helping make it an awesome training day. Collaboration like this builds stronger firefighters and safer districts. 👨‍🚒👩‍🚒

If this looks like something you’d like to be a part of, we’re always looking for dedicated volunteers to join our team! Stop by the station and fill out a volunteer application — you might just find your new passion in the fire service. 🚒
