The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory for the Grays Harbor County Coast from 2 AM to 5 PM Wednesday.

📍 AFFECTED AREAS:
Ocean Shores, Westport, Quillayute, and Queets

💨 WHAT:
South winds 10–25 mph with gusts up to 35–40 mph

⚠️ POSSIBLE IMPACTS:
• Gusty winds may blow around unsecured objects
• Tree limbs could be blown down
• A few power outages may occur
• Strongest winds will be along the water

🚗 DRIVING:
Strong winds can make driving difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles. Use extra caution.

The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning from 1 AM to 5 PM PDT Saturday for lightning and gusty outflow winds.

📍 Affected Area:
• West portion of the Olympic Mountains

🌩️ Expected Conditions:
• Scattered thunderstorms are possible across the Olympics.
• Storms may produce gusty and erratic outflow winds between 20 and 30 mph.
• Outflow winds can occur both ahead of and behind storms and may cause sudden, unpredictable wind direction changes.

🔥 Potential Impacts:
• Lightning in dry fuels can cause multiple fire starts.
• Sudden wind shifts from thunderstorms can cause existing fires to spread rapidly or change direction.
• Thunderstorm outflow winds may remain a threat for several hours after a lightning-caused fire starts.
• If a fire develops, air quality may deteriorate in surrounding areas.

⚠️ Preparedness:

• Any fires that develop will likely spread quickly.

🔥 FIRE WEATHER WATCH - OLYMPIC MOUNTAINS 🔥

The National Weather US National Weather Service Seattle Washington has issued a Fire Weather Watch from late Friday night through Saturday evening for Fire Weather Zone 652 (West Portion of the Olympic Mountains) and Zone 661 (East Portion of the Olympic Mountains).

⛈️ Scattered thunderstorms are possible, bringing a risk of lightning-caused wildfires in dry fuels. Storms may also produce gusty and erratic outflow winds of 20–30 mph, which can quickly change fire behavior and direction.

🚫🔥 Outdoor burning is currently banned in Grays Harbor County. Please do not burn. Avoid activities that could create sparks or ignite dry vegetation.

⚠️ Conditions can change quickly, so please stay alert and monitor local weather updates for possible Red Flag Warnings.

The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning from 12 PM to 9 PM this evening for lightning and gusty outflow winds.

📍 Affected Area:
• West portion of the Olympic Mountains

🌩️ Expected Conditions:
• Isolated to scattered thunderstorm coverage is possible across the Cascades and Olympics.
• Any storms that develop will be capable of gusty and erratic outflow winds between 20 and 30 mph.
• Outflow winds can occur ahead of and behind storms and cause erratic wind directions.

🔥 Potential Impacts:
• Scattered lightning in dry fuels can cause multiple fire starts.
• Thunderstorms can also bring sudden sharp wind shifts on existing fires, causing rapid changes in a fire's rate of spread and direction of spread.
• Thunderstorm outflow winds can be a threat for several hours following the start of a new lightning-caused fire.
• If a fire were to begin, air quality may diminish in the surrounding area.

The Draft Comprehensive Land Use Plan is now available!

The Grays Harbor County Comprehensive Land Use Plan will outline how and where land use and development in unincorporated Grays Harbor County could occur over the next decade. It will set long-term goals for land and resource use, to make the community vision a reality. Share your input on the Draft Comprehensive Land Use Plan by 4:30 PM on September 15, 2026.

There are several ways you can engage and provide feedback:

☑️ Attend the Planning Commission Special Meeting on August 19 in-person or online! We’ll be presenting information about the Draft Comprehensive Land Use Plan from 6:30 to 8:00 PM.

On Thursday August 13 from 5 pm to 7 pm, representatives from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will hold drop-in “office hours” for any individuals who are interested in learning more about the EPA time-critical removal action that has begun at the Cosmo Specialty Fibers facility.
