Greetings UM family,
As we continue through the uncharted territory of the COVID-19 pandemic, we wanted to share information with you about the current state of the campus. The University Executive Cabinet is proactively implementing measures to safeguard the campus community and to ensure the academic progress of our students.
On March 13, students began moving out of the residence halls in order to prepare for an extended spring break, lasting from March 16 to March 29. On March 30, students will begin completing courses utilizing distance education until further notice. The University has heavily encouraged students, faculty and staff to consider canceling any nonessential travel plans for spring break, and to follow the health and safety guidelines provided by the CDC at cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prepare/prevention.html.
We continue to receive an outpouring of support along with questions from alums about what they can do to help the UM family. In order to meet the many demands of our student population, the University has created the COVID-19 Student Relief Fund to help provide financial assistance to ALL current UM students who are in need. These funds will be available to help with food insecurity, housing insecurity, purchasing requirements for online classes and any other financial needs that are directly related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
If you’re pondering how to help those in need, please consider making an online gift at montevallo.edu/give/annual-giving to support the COVID-19 Student Relief Fund. We know the financial hardships will continue for our students and we’re staying the course of helping to provide solutions to those in need, so that their dreams of earning a degree from the University of Montevallo don’t have to end because of this pandemic.
With great appreciation,
Dr. John W. Stewart

Beginning Tuesday, March 17, Anna Irvin Dining Hall will be open specific hours with a limited menu. Student counseling services will be available to students who remain on campus. Any students facing hardship are being asked to contact the Falcon Food Pantry in the Grainger Center for Personal Development.

Please consider students who are food insecure or have limited access to services in this situation. If you feel so led, we encourage you to help in one of the following ways:
• Make a gift to the Food Pantry & Emergency Services at montevallo.edu/annual-giving/ or send a check to the UM Foundation for Falcon Food Pantry,
• Purchase gift cards, which students can use to purchase food, hygiene products and other goods (Walmart, Target, CVS, Amazon, etc.) and send to the UM Foundation at 75 College Drive, Station 6215, Montevallo, AL 35115.

Thank you so much for your care and concern for our students during this time!
