Back-to-School Traffic Reminder

Tomorrow, all students return to school, and the City of Montevallo will be especially busy during school drop-off and pick-up times. Residents and motorists should expect increased traffic and possible delays in and around the school areas.

School Traffic Procedures:

-All school traffic should enter the school from Island Street near the tennis courts and turn right into the designated pick-up and drop-off lanes.
-There will be no left turns into the pick-up or drop-off lanes during morning or afternoon traffic.
-Please do not use Park Drive near Orr Park or Bloch Street (one-way) to cut the line or bypass school traffic.
-In the afternoon, school traffic will line up in the turn lane on Island Street until drivers are directed to enter the school pick-up/drop-off area.
-Parents and guardians must remain in their vehicles during drop-off and pick-up.

Please watch for directions from school personnel and officers regarding when to move or remain stopped.
Please stay off your phones while in the school traffic line. Our children are far more important than a video, TikTok, or text message.

We ask everyone to please be mindful of pedestrians and crosswalks, obey all posted speed limits, watch for school buses, and exercise extra caution and patience when traveling through school zones.

Please give yourself extra time, remain alert, and follow the directions of school personnel and law enforcement. A little patience and cooperation will go a long way toward keeping our students safe and school traffic moving smoothly.

Let’s work together to make the return to school safe for our students, parents, faculty, and entire community.

Despite an unexpected power outage that cut our day short, Camp Journey was still filled with exciting, hands-on learning opportunities.

Participants had the invaluable opportunity to interact with the dedicated members of the Montevallo Fire & Rescue Service, watch dynamic demonstrations from the Federal Bureau of Investigation - Birmingham Division, and practice opening school lockers, which will undoubtedly boost their confidence as they prepare for the upcoming school year. Additionally, campers strengthened their teamwork skills through an array of exciting group activities.

Camp Journey Day 1 is officially in the books!🎉🎉

Today marked an outstanding start to Camp Journey, as campers participated in meaningful learning experiences designed to prepare them for a successful transition to middle school.

Our campers heard from an exceptional group of community leaders, including Chief Burr from the Montevallo Police Department, Dr. Hampton, Principal of Montevallo Middle School, the Alabama Fish and Game Warden, and Montevallo Middle School Resource Officer Sergeant Wilhite. Each speaker shared invaluable insights on leadership, personal responsibility, digital safety, and making positive choices.

Campers also engaged in a panel discussion with our Junior Camp Counselors, where they had the opportunity to ask questions and gain firsthand perspectives about middle school. Throughout the day, students worked together in team-building activities, strengthened new friendships, and learned the importance of staying substance-free while developing the skills and confidence needed for the year ahead.

A special thank you to Domino's Pizza for generously sponsoring today's lunch. We appreciate your support in making Camp Journey a memorable experience for our campers.

This past week, we attended the 25th Annual CADCA Conference in Orlando, Florida, where prevention professionals, coalition leaders, and community partners from across the country came together to advance substance misuse prevention efforts.

The conference began with the Joint CADCA and DEA Fentanyl Free America Opening Session, highlighting the critical role of collaboration in addressing the nation's overdose crisis and strengthening prevention strategies.

Throughout the week, we connected with prevention professionals, exchanged innovative ideas, and learned from organizations making a meaningful impact in their communities. The knowledge, resources, and relationships we gained will help strengthen our work as we continue promoting prevention, fostering collaboration, and building a healthier community in partnership with Impact Montevallo.
