We are excited to welcome Justin True to our team! Justin is our new High School Band Director. Help us give Justin a warm Thunder Hawk welcome to Montevideo Public Schools!

Hello!
I am Justin True, the new Band Director at Montevideo High School. I am looking forward to a great first year of music making with the students in Montevideo. I grew up in Waseca, Minnesota and went to college in Mankato where I participated in many musical ensembles including Marching Band, Jazz Band, Concert Band and Concert Choir. My last three years have been spent teaching up in International Falls. I was greatly inspired to teach by my own high school band director, Mr. Gullickson, who challenged everyone around them to be the best version of themselves.

Outside of the classroom I spend a lot of my time indoors gaming and writing music, but when the weather permits, I also love a good hike or run. My fun fact is I have an ever growing board game collection that currently sits at around 140 games! I have written music for many different ensembles to play whether it be my college jazz band or the students I taught in International Falls, and I look forward to sharing my music yet again!

As students head back to school this week, let’s all do our part to keep our Thunder Hawks safe on their journey to and from school and promote a culture of safety in our community!

🚌A new school bus stop arm law went into effect earlier this spring which states that when a school bus driver activates the red flashing lights, vehicles must stop at least 20 feet away from the school bus, regardless of whether the stop arm is extended or not. Violating the law is a misdemeanor carrying a minimum fine of $500.

🚘Motorists
* Slow down in school zones and obey posted speed limits.
* Watch carefully for children crossing streets, especially near bus stops.
* Stop for the bus. Obey the stop-arm law every time—no exceptions!

🚸Students:
* Be on time at the bus stop and wait safely back from the road.
* Wait for the bus to come to a complete stop before approaching.
* Always cross in front of the bus where the driver can see you.
* Use quiet voices and stay seated while the bus is moving.

This fall, Minnesota voters will have the opportunity to vote on a constitutional amendment related to the Permanent School Fund, a resource that has supported public education in Minnesota for more than 165 years.

The proposed amendment would modernize how distributions from the fund are calculated, helping schools benefit from the fund’s long-term growth while not increasing existing taxes or costing Minnesotans more money.
