PROJECT UPDATE – F46 (Ewart Rd.)

Work continues on the asphalt resurfacing project on F46 (Ewart Rd.) between Ewart and US-63.

Starting Monday, April 20th, the contractor will begin placing choke stone base, which is expected to continue through Wednesday.

Beginning Thursday, the contractor will start placing asphalt. They will pave one lane on Thursday, followed by the second lane on Friday.

The road will remain closed to through traffic during this work. Residents and landowners within the project area will continue to have access to their homes and fields, though brief delays may occur during placement.

We appreciate your patience as this work progresses and ask that drivers continue to use caution around construction equipment and crews.

On Tuesday, April 7, 2026, the Iowa Interstate Railroad crossing on 400th Avenue along Little Bear Creek, southwest of Brooklyn, will be closed from approximately 7:00 AM to 12:00 PM while maintenance work is being performed.

Please plan your route accordingly and use alternate routes during this closure.

ROAD CLOSURE NOTICE – F46 (Ewart Rd.) – April 6th, 2026

Poweshiek County will have a contractor perform an asphalt resurfacing project on F46 (Ewart Rd.) beginning April 6th. This work will require the road from Ewart to US-63 to be closed to through traffic for the duration of the project. The project is expected to be completed in late May to early June, weather permitting.

Residents and landowners within the project area will still have access to their homes and fields, though brief delays may occur during construction.

Westbound traffic: South on US-63, west on F57 (Diamond Trail Rd.), then north on Iowa-146

Eastbound traffic: South on Iowa-146, east on F57 (Diamond Trail Rd.), then north on US-63

Road Closure Notice – Bridge Replacement Project

Starting on September 2nd, 520th Avenue (from Hwy 21 to 200th Street) and 210th Street (from 510th Avenue to 520th Avenue) will be closed until Spring 2026 for a bridge replacement project.

Closure Notice – I-80 / US 63 Entrance Ramp

The I-80 West entrance ramp from US 63 will be closed for road construction beginning Tuesday, September 2, 2025 at 6:00 AM (CDT) and is scheduled to reopen by Friday, October 31, 2025 at 5:00 PM (CDT).

A detour will be in place — please follow the Iowa DOT–recommended route. See linked Iowa 511 map for details.

Road Closure Notice – First Avenue, Grinnell

On Tuesday, August 12, First Avenue west of 20th Street will be closed for maintenance. A patching crew will be working in the area, and the road will be closed to through traffic for the duration of the repair work.

The Iowa Department of Transportation (Iowa DOT), in partnership with 20+ cities and counties, is applying to receive federal grant funding to replace various infrastructure around the state. Poweshiek County is seeking funding for two bridges on Diamond Trail Road (F57) near Highway 146, as well as a third bridge on Highway 6 just outside of Brooklyn. 480TH Ave/North Lake Road & F29/Old Hwy 6 are now open, ALTHOUGH there will be some finishing work and the removal of signs so please be courteous and watch out for these contractors.

Construction Update – 480th Avenue, North of Lake Ponderosa

Temporary Opening & Upcoming Closure

480th Avenue will be temporarily open starting today through the 4th of July weekend to allow for local travel. Please drive cautiously—rumble strips have not yet been installed, and work is still unfinished.

Next week, (June 30-July 4th) mailboxes will be replaced for residents living along 480th Avenue.

On July 7th and 8th, the road will be fully closed to through traffic while crews grind in the rumble strips. This will be a hard closure, and traffic will not be permitted on 480th Avenue during this time.

Drivers should plan ahead and use an alternate route during the closure. Local residents will retain access to their properties when safe and as conditions allow.

Please continue to use caution, obey all signage, and avoid the active work zone when crews are present.
