According to some guidelines, wipes only have to break 60% apart to be labeled 'flushable'. That's still a lot of material that causes clogs and backups.

Please help us avoid expensive sewer issues by putting all 'flushable' wipes in trash bins and not down the toilet, even if they are labeled 'flushable'.

Authors of the new report "Environmental Risk Factors and Iowa's Cancer Crisis" will present findings on pesticides, nitrate, PFAS, and radon, and their associations with cancer in Iowa on Monday, August 3 from 5:30-7:00 pm. Montezuma Memorial Hall, 205 E Main St.

White some risk factors for cancers are well known and studied, such as smoking, alcohol consumption, and ultraviolet radiation from the sun or tanning beds, environmental factors-what's in our water, soil, and air-are discussed far less. In the groundbreaking new report and the presentation on August 3, we'll share data and research about associations between pesticides, nitrate, PFAS, and radon, and cancer in Iowa, including specific types of cancer and age groups impacted. You'll also see data about Poweshiek County's unique cancer risk profile and how it compares with the rest of the state and the U.S..

Please remind all children to obey all traffic signs and signals.
Always STOP and look both ways before crossing a street or driveway. Discuss the safety hazards of crossing Hwy 63. This is a very dangerous crossing for kids on bikes.
