On 6-3-2026 at approximately 1237 hours the Poweshiek County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a semi-truck vs train crash in the 3900 Block of Highway 21. This accident is located approximately 3 miles west of Victor, Iowa.
At this time there is one confirmed fatality from the semi-truck, and another occupant was transported by life fight with serious injuries. The identity of those involved is being withheld at this time. The train involved is an Iowa Interstate Railroad train.
Please avoid the area while responders work to secure the scene and manage the incident. There were approximately 2 power engines and 17 cars that were affected by the crash. The engines and train cars have derailed and significant damage to the rails occurred.
Highway 21 will be closed between Highway 6 and Old 6 Road for an extended period while the scene is managed and the Iowa State Patrol is handing the crash investigation.
The Poweshiek County Sheriff's Office, Iowa County Sheriff’s Office, Victor Fire Department, Brooklyn Fire Department, Grinnell Fire Department, East Poweshiek Ambulance, Montezuma Ambulance, Poweshiek County Emergency Management, Iowa County Emergency Management, and the Iowa State Patrol all responded to the scene.
